Nina Simone ist wirklich beeindruckend! Krieg das gerade zufällig mit heute Abend :-) Was ich jetzt aber nicht zurückhalten kann ist eine Version von Janis Joplin ... eines meiner Lieblingsliedern, so berührend und verletzlich bringt sie das rüber ... ich mag das Lied sehr gerne ... kleines Intermezzo in Deine starke Nina Simone-Hommage!
1957 veröffentlichte sie in New York ihr erstes Album auf Bethlehem Records, ein Konzert 1959 in der New York City Town Hall machte sie in den USA und in Europa bekannt. Von ihren Fans wurde sie ehrfürchtig als „Hohepriesterin des Soul“ bezeichnet. In den 1960er Jahren engagierte sie sich in der US-amerikanischen Bürgerrechtsbewegung, mit Liedern wie Mississippi Goddam und To Be Young, Gifted, and Black (Liedtext von Weldon Irvine) wurde sie eine ihrer musikalischen Leitfiguren.
Ihr eigenes privates Leben zerbrach aber Stück um Stück: Sie floh aus ihren Ehen, hatte eine Affäre mit dem Premierminister von Barbados (Errol Barrow), suchte aufgrund einer Empfehlung von Miriam Makeba ihre Bestimmung in Afrika, unternahm Europatourneen, die sie ihrem politischen Kampf in den USA entfremdeten und galt in der Plattenindustrie zunehmend als schwierig.
Ihr Album Baltimore (1978) wurde von der Kritik gelobt, verkaufte sich aber zunächst schlecht. In den 1980ern trat sie regelmäßig im Jazzclub von Ronnie Scott in London auf. Ihre Autobiografie I Put a Spell on You erschien 1992, ihr letztes reguläres Album 1993.
"...Sorry Nina, our generation has let you down. Now, the ones we celebrate are Beyonce, Jay Z, Piff Duddy, 20 Cents, and who's that other one with bad teeth and dirty clothes - I think he's called Lil' Wanda or Lil John Wayne, I can't remember.
It sickens me. But it's the bullshit they churn out that rule our airwaves now.

Hier haben auch unbekannte Künstler, Newcomer und experimentierfreudige Musiker, Performance- Künstler, aber auch Artisten die Möglichkeit öffentlich auf zu treten und sich selbst zu verwirklichen.
Auf dem "Whiteboard" hat jede Gruppe die Möglichkeit, ihre Ausrichtung, persönliches label etc. zu visualisieren - vielleicht auch das allererste Mal überhaupt.
The Whiteboard Sessions are unique because the daytime office environment calls for a different kind of performance than what people normally see at concerts. These sessions are mostly acoustic and there is a lot of interaction with the crowd. And there’s lots of improvising too – recycling bins become percussion instruments. There’s really nothing quite like an intimate, un-plugged show, up close and personal.
Im Folgenden hab´ich kurz mal reingehört, was letztens so geboten wurde........ alles unplugged ohne die übliche "hightec" der heutige großen Pop/ Rock / Konzerte

Dessa came through with her live band for a performance of "Call Off Your Ghost" from the album Parts of Speech on Doomtree Records.
