Descon makes the nation proud by commencing the first Independent Power Wind Project in Jhimpir, Sindh. This is the start of a green power revolution in Pakistan..
…….Moving the turbines was a challenging task; therefore a comprehensive transportation plan was engineered to move 1 complete set (to avoid double handling) at the installation site consisting of 3 Rotor Blades & 1 Nacelle on Multi-Axle Hydraulic Trailers, Hub on low bed trailer and containers on flat bed trailers. 38.5 m long blade has an overhang component for which a safety plan was also devised. All rigging gears and equipment was third party certified. A detailed, delivery inspection was carried out by QA/QC for damages and irregularities during onshore and offshore handling. The consignment of parts was placed according to the stacking plan at Port Passim, so that the components could be delivered as per the SEP (Site Erection Plan).
On 21st of January, 2012 Descon performed the first lift of 1.5 MW wind turbine. Sophisticated cranes perfectly equipped for the erection of wind turbines were acquired for the job. The cranes used are equipped with state-of-the-art electronic control systems, monitoring screens, wind speed indicators and radio transceivers for communication. This 1.5 MW Wind Turbine is supplied by Nordex Germany and all the other equipment including the tubular towers is manufactured at Descon Engineering Ltd Manufacturing works. This localization in manufacturing of Wind Towers has also embarked Descon Engineering Ltd and Pakistan in the field of Wind Energy worldwide.
This project is the first of its kind in Pakistan and shall greatly contribute to the development of wind industry in the country where a substantial growth is expected in the coming future. There are huge opportunities in this market and Descon is determined to maintain a strong presence. This continued commitment has resulted in the signing of EPC contracts with other major investors like Fauji Foundation, Yunus Energy, Gul Ahmed Energy and Metro Wind Power.
The five N100/2500 based wind farms will be built in Sindh. Two of them are planned by the Fauji Foundation group. In 2010, a subsidiary company Fauji Fertilizer became Nordex‘s first customer in Pakistan with a 50 MW project. The first 1.5 MW plants ordered for this project will be delivered next month.
The customers for the three other wind farms are also major Pakistani companies. These are Gul Ahmed Wind Power Ltd., Metro Power Company Ltd. and Yunus Energy Ltd. These projects are scheduled to be built in 2012 and 2013. The parent companies have conventional power stations in operation and are now expanding into sustainable energies.
