Mining entrepreneur Robert Friedland has entered into a partnership with Cordoba Minerals (TSXV: CDB) in the hope of finding the next Oyu Tolgoi.

Secondary copper mineralisation (azurite and malachite) in exposures at artisanal workings
Friedland’s private vehicle High Power Exploration (HPX) will make a strategic investment in CDB and form a joint venture to earn up to a 65% interest in that company’s San Matias copper-gold project in Cordoba, Colombia, by funding it through to feasibility study.

The San Matias project contains several known areas of porphyry copper-gold mineralisation, copper-gold replacement or skarn-style and vein-hosted, gold-copper mineralisation in a part of Colombia where there are already large openpit nickel and coal mines. Recent drilling at San Matias returned high-grade copper and gold intersections including 101m of 1% copper and 0.65 g/t gold.

"We had a lot of interest from some large mining companies and received multiple offers. We went with Robert Friedland because he has a worldwide reputation for finding big [mineral] deposits like Voisey’s Bay and Oyu Tolgoi," CDB president and CEO Mario Stifano told Mining Journal.

"HPX is pleased to be able to gain an interest in what we consider is one of South America’s best copper-gold exploration projects," said Mark Gibson, HPX’s CEO.

In addition to cash, HPX will use its proprietary high-powered induced polarisation geophysics technology to the project that can take readings up to 2km deep.

Under the terms of the deal, HPX will take an initial 11% stake in Cordoba and fund an initial C$2.5 million of exploration work over 18 months. It can then earn up to a 51% interest in CDB’s subsidiary Minerales Cordoba that holds San Matias by spending an additional C$16.5 million on exploration. It can increase this to 65% by funding a NI 43-101 compliant feasibility study.

"They are looking for the big one and we are pretty confident that it is there. The funding commitment through to feasibility study is important as it will cost at least US$50 million to do this for a porphyry deposit," said Stifano.

The entrance of Friedland into Colombia will be a boost to the country whose reputation has suffered in recent years due to the perceived difficulty in advancing exploration projects and obtaining permits.

"This is a large vote of confidence in Colombia. Robert did a lot of due diligence, not just in the project but in the country as a whole, and including speaking with the mining minister to get comfortable that Colombia is the next frontier for mineral exploration and production," said Stifano.

Cordoba Minerals belle of the ball

Colombia copper junior explorer Cordoba Minerals Corp (TSXV: CDB) has become the belle of the ball having pieced together and shown that there is copper on some 200,000 hectares of exploration concessions at its San Matias project in northern Colombia.

Paul Harris06 Mar 2015   9:39

Visitors to Cordoba’s Costa Azul porphyry copper-gold prospect at San Matias, Colombia
The company has received a stream of calls requesting site visits from major mining companies and may enter into a JV agreement to take the project forward. "Larger companies have an interest in copper in Colombia and Cordoba Minerals appears to have locked up the whole northern belt. We would entertain a JV under the right circumstances that recognise the value of the property," president and CEO Mario Stifano told Mining Journal.

Cordoba is currently undertaking a ground magnetics survey on the first 6km of the mineralised trend it has identified. The company believes that high-grade material is associated with magnetite and so will look to correlate the results with drilling to date, before embarking on 2,500m-to-5,000m of drilling in the second half of this year.

“Everywhere we test in the area we are finding anomalous copper. Now we just have to find the best parts of it,” Stifano said.

Cordoba Minerals Acquires the Alacran Copper-Gold Project in

Columbia.

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 21, 2015) - Cordoba Minerals Corp. ("Cordoba" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:CDB) is pleased to announce that it has entered into an option agreement with Sociedad Ordinaria de Minas Omni ("OMNI") to purchase the Alacran Copper-Gold Project ("Alacran" or the "Alacran Project") which is located within Cordoba's San Matias Project. The acquisition enables Cordoba to consolidate the entire San Matias Copper-Gold District in the Department of Cordoba in the northwest of Colombia. Cordoba believes that the Alacran Project remains largely untested and has the potential to host a large scale copper-gold resource.

"The acquisition of the Alacran Project is an important step forward for Cordoba as it adds another high quality project to our portfolio of copper-gold exploration assets in Colombia," said Mario Stifano, Cordoba's President and CEO.

HIGHLIGHTS

Alacran Copper-Gold Project

The Alacran Copper-Gold Project is located within the tenure of the Company's San Matias Copper-Gold Project in the Department of Cordoba, Colombia. Over 13,000 metres of diamond drilling has been carried out at the project to date (see Table 1) including 139 metres of 1.23% Cu and 0.74 g/t Au in SJ-006, 188 metres of 0.71% Cu and 0.25 g/t Au in ASA-012 and 128 metres of 0.84% Cu and 0.45 g/t Au in ASA-014(1)

The majority of the intersected mineralization has only been tested to an average vertical depth of 150 metres, with the deepest intersections only 240 metres below surface. Mineralization is traced over a strike length of greater than 1,300 metres. The copper-gold mineralization defined to date represents an excellent opportunity for Cordoba to delineate a large high-grade, copper-gold resource that has the potential to grow significantly as the deposit is open in almost all directions.

Alacran is approximately two kilometres southwest of the Company's Montiel discovery, where recent drilling interested 101 metres of 1.0% Cu and 0.65 g/t Au, and two kilometres west of Costa Azul where recent drilling interested 87 metres of 0.62% Cu and 0.51 g/t Au1. An initial 3,000 metre diamond drilling program to confirm the known mineralization and test for both vertical and strike extensions is expected to commence in mid-November, 2015.

The Agreement also provides for HPX and the Company to enter into a separate joint venture agreement (the "JV Agreement") which calls for HPX to fund an initial C$2,500,000 of exploration work over an 18 month period ("Initial Option Period") on the San Matias Project, to be funded by proceeds from the Private Placement and the exercise of the Warrants. HPX will be the operator of the exploration program. The Agreement provides additional earn-in phases (Phase 1, 2 and 3), whereby HPX can earn up to 65% of Cordoba's indirect subsidiary Minerales Cordoba SAS (the "JV Company") which holds the San Matias Project by spending an additional C$16,500,000 in exploration with a minimum of $6 million in Phase 1 for a 25% interest and $10.5 million in Phase 2 for a 51% interest and funding a National Instrument 43-101 compliant feasibility study on the Project during Phase 3 for a 65% interest over a maximum 102 month period following the Initial Option Period.
