ALSTOM STARTS UP THE OPERATION OF TERMORIo - THE LARGEST NATURAL GAS-POWERED THERMOELECTRIC STATION IN BRAZIL
January 3rd 2004
The Company is the only in Brazil providing a complete turnkey project, in addition to supply equipment for thermoelectric power stations
In charge of the whole TermoRio power plant, ALSTOM has just started-up, by simple cycle mode, the operation of two turbo-generators (21 and 22), with 105 MW capacity each. “Today in Brazil, we are the only Company that, besides supplying equipment for thermoelectric power stations, also offers a complete turnkey project,” highlights Romeu Pinassi, Project Manager at ALSTOM.
Constituted by six gas turbo-generators and three steam turbo-generators, the plant has 3 blocks, each one composed by two GT-11N2 gas turbines and one steam turbine (with respective generators), two recovery boilers, auxiliary systems and one water-cooling tower.
Amounting 550 million dollars, the contract signed in 2001 also includes civil works and erection management, installation of one high-voltage gas-insulated substation, auxiliary, control and command systems, engineering, construction, commissioning and start-up.
TermoRio, which will be the largest thermoelectric power station with co-generation and combined cycle in Brazil when concluded, in May 2005, will provide a total installed power of 1040 MW, enough to supply a region with approximately 4.5 million people, corresponding to near 22% of the electric power generated in Rio de Janeiro.
It will also be able to produce up to 400 tonnes/hour of steam (co-generation) for supplying, via piping system, the Petrobrás’ Duque de Caxias Oil Refinery - REDUC.
We must highlight that the power station encompasses the last technological improvements in terms of environment protection, with low NOx emission.
