“If you start me up, I’ll never stop, I’ve been running hot.” - The Rolling Stones.
Shares of uranium explorer Xemplar bucked the negative trend of the broader markets yesterday. Drilling on the company’s Warmbad project has re-started using three drilling rigs. This will be increased to five rigs by the end of January. The company is still waiting for assay results from samples submitted in December 2007. These samples are from 13 holes previously drilled and the results from these samples are expected by the end of January 2008.
Earlier this month, shares of Xemplar rallied after the Sunday Express reported that Rio Tinto (RTP) may be considering a bid for the company. The Sunday Express said, “Rio is understood to be watching events carefully and will decide on whether or not it will make a move for the firm after the results come in.” The newspaper report went on to say that Xemplar has found a site in Namibia that may contain more uranium that Rio’s existing mine in that country.
Rio Tinto has a 69% interest in the Rössing uranium mine in Namibia. The mine currently produces about 7.55% of the world’s uranium. |
