Samsung Electronics Ranks 11th in 'AWSJ Asia 200' Survey
Samsung Elections ranked No. 11 in the Asian Wall Street Journal (AWSJ)'s "200 Asian Businesses in 2004" survey that surveyed 157 multinationals and local corporations, the newspaper reported Monday. Samsung moved up two notches from No. 13 in 2003. Samsung Electronics placed first in the Top 10 Korean businesses for the sixth straight year. The survey evaluated five areas: company reputation, products quality and service, management's long-term vision, innovation in responding to customer demands and financial soundness. Samsung Electronics earned high scores in the degree of innovation in responding to customer needs and management's long-term vision, bypassing Citigroup, Cannon, Dell and Honda, but received relatively lower scores than its rivals in company reputation. Microsoft kept No. 1 for the 10th year on a row, while No. 2 went to German automobile maker BMW, which moved up 10 notches from No. 12 in 2003. Following them were Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, Sony, Toyota Motors, IBM, General Electrics, Intel and Apple Computer. The survey was conducted by Hong Kong's ACNielsen International Research at the request of the AWSJ. A total of 3,228 executives and professionals in 12 Asian countries responded to the survey.
