LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Boeing Corp. said late Thursday that it had completed static tests on its long-delayed 787 Dreamliner and is ready to begin test flights, with one report saying the jet could take to the skies as early as next week.
Boeing /quotes/comstock/13*!ba/quotes/nls/ba (BA 55.01, -0.46, -0.83%) said in a statement that the 787's first flight "is expected to occur after final flight readiness reviews, receipt of documentation from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and taxi testing," adding that both the taxi and actual flight tests "are subject to weather conditions."
The Wall Street Journal, meanwhile, reported that the flight test could begin Tuesday.
It cited unidentified officials familiar with the details as saying Boeing would likely finish up the ground tests by late Thursday or early Friday, with the taxi tests coming over the weekend. Read full WSJ.com story on Boeing Dreamliner flight test.
The production delays have plagued the Dreamliner, which was originally expected to begin test flights in late 2007. Those delays infuriated some customers, though the aircraft maker got a boost to its share price earlier this month as completion of the Dreamliner's development appeared to be at hand. |
