pple, Dell OEM sees profits grow
Apple computer manufacturer Qanata expects the laptop market to remain solid despite the economic downturn.
The original equipment manufacturer (OEM), which also produces notebooks for firms such as Dell, HP and Acer, announced that its first quarter profits manufacturing computers used domestically, in education and as office products, had soared 18 per cent.
Analysts have speculated that Qanta has performed well based on its production of Apple products, which they believe could account for up to 25 per cent of its revenue.
Patty Liu, analyst for BNP Paribas Securities told Bloomberg: "In the near term, we expect Quanta to benefit from key client Apple’s marketshare gains and we expect a strong second half."
And Qanta, the worlds largest notebook manufacturer, said that growth would continue as the financial downturn had failed to leave its mark on the "strong demand for notebooks", and predicts notebook shipments will rise 25 per cent to reach 40 million this year.
