Security concerns have continued to delay work on the Sidi Dhaher-1 well, located onshore Tunisia, operator ADX Energy has told the Australian Securities Exchange.
Work on the project has been delayed since March, but the company said the holdup had had a minimal cost impact to the Joint Venture.
The company said local authorities had not been able to give it “reliable commitments” to supervise the transport of the rig to the drilling location and prevent trespass to its facilities once operational.
With concerns about the safety of people living near the well site and using the rig equipment access roads remaining, ADX said the rig move would remain suspended pending agreement with local authorities on appropriate measures for road clearance, traffic control and road safety.
Despite the delay, ADX wrote it was working well with local authorities and the community around the well.
“Some delay to the normally smooth implementation of these safety measures was to be expected following the significant changes that have recently occurred within the leadership of central and local government authorities and local communities,” the company wrote.
The Sidi Dhaher prospect is located in the Chorbane Exploration Permit onshore central Tunisia, near the port city of Sfax.
