Mayfair-based Silverwind Securities has decided to cease trading in its broking business.
The broking and corporate finance outfit was a pedigree poodle, created by one-time vice-chairman of ABN AMRO, Menno de Jager, and Andrew Rowland, formerly of Dresdner Kleinwort. Ex-stockbroker Guy Winterflood, son of City grandee Brian Winterflood, was also – fleetingly – head of corporate finance. Guy left SilverWind behind two years back and now invests in such businesses as private jet company, Fly Victor. Back to our poorly pooch.
My man in braces said: “Silverwind tried to raise more money but shareholders declined to put any more in. It was a victim of the market.”
Funny that, considering the business was built to flourish in the recession. The website boasts: “The events of the past few years have exposed flaws and weaknesses within the financial services industry, highlighting the need for a wind of change. With this need in mind, its founders established SilverWind Securities.” The company is continuing with its foreign exchange business. |
