1087 Postings, 2487 Tage CWL1Looking into IQE 2021 Capex

IQE's 2021 capex cut probably has no impact to Aixtron.

On July 14 2021, IQE reported:
"Orders placed for three new Aixtron G4 reactors and three refurbished Aixtron G3
reactors, with delivery of tools expected in H2 2021 to increase capacity at IQE Taiwan
by over 20%, underpinning further anticipated growth in 2022 and beyond"

On Nov 24, IQE updated:
"Despite the challenges of supply chain constraints within the broader semiconductor industry,
the solid performance of GaAs throughout 2021 has resulted in high utilisation at the Group’s
Taiwan facility, where the Group is investing in eight new and refurbished tools. This includes
three new Aixtron G4 reactors which are now on-site and being commissioned to support
further growth in 2022."

So three G4 have been delivered and installed and the 2021 capex cut just announced should not affect the MOCVD.

Well analysed CWL, thank you. But even if it affected Aixtron, we all know that VCSEL is not the driver for orders at the moment, it is GAN/SIC.. I think the VCSEL orders have not been significant over recent quarters.

I think the interpretation by the market is more about "peak orders".. may it be GAN slowing (we know its not) and now IQE cutting ("VCSEL slowing" - we know it doesnt matter). So we can remain relaxed.

Remember that in the Q3 call they pointed towards mid/upper end of order guidance which does not imply a material slowdown.

Interesting directors dealing with CEO Grawert buying 75k € worth of shares on 24.11. (the day of the IQE news) at 18.63. Shows his conviction. I would be surprised if he is not buying more today!

IQE has lost share to VPEC in several areas which explains IQE's announcement  last week.

"...According to market reports, Qualcomm abandoned IQE, a leading British epitaxy factory, and went to Taiwan to find PA partners. It is expected to be exclusively supplied by VPEC..."

"...In order to strengthen the energy of communication technology, Qualcomm reported that it will fully sprint its own research and development and design of PA business. Asia's gallium arsenide epitaxy leader is VPEC and is expected to become its exclusive raw material supplier. It has now entered the final verification stage and will be mass-produced and shipped next year. The bullish news also inspired the PA group to cheer on the 29th..."

564 Postings, 6253 Tage fel216Endlich Feuerwehrmann Joss!

Joss!

Order intakes bottomed in Q319, 3Q's later sales bottomed in Q220.  So sales trail orders by 3Q's.  Since the order intakes are still rising in Q321, sales should continue to rise till at least 3Q's later which is Q222.

564 Postings, 6253 Tage fel216@CWL Power Sales

Hi CWL,

great charts, thanks alot.

I am surprised about the share price development, however I think that this is driven by the broader tech sector and overall decline in equity positioning (e.g. people selling across the board, especially their outperformers) and note that Aixtron still is +20% YTD vs. Stoxx 600 Europe +16%..

A question on the Power Chart you posted above (e.g. Chart 5). This is entirely driven by GAN + SIC, right? I think this is a great fingerpointing of what will likely come for overall order/revenue composition in 2022/23, e.g. Power should ramp steadily and much further from current levels.

What is driving Opto again?

Nice analysis that the current order intake should help sales through to Q3-22, so latest by then we need further support from GAN/SIC to keep the growth story running.. and that should fit quite nicely with the timeframe the company as always highlighted.. e.g. SIC orders ramping in H2-22 etc.

Regards!

1087 Postings, 2487 Tage CWL1Optoelectronics and Communications

Hi Fel,

Based on Aixtron's definition, the Opto segment includes applications in Consumer Optoelectronics, Solar, Telecom/Datacom and Wireless/RF Communications.

So the main driver is telecom/datacom for high speed communication using laser (VCSEL) as the optical source, and the Wireless/RF including the GaAs power amplifiers and WIF-6 chips in our smartphones.

VCSEL for 3D sensing is lagging in this segment due to the Android phones did not follow Apple as much as people had expected.  It should come back pretty soon as the new LIDAR for cars and world facing sensor applications in new phones come.

It was open in the Taiwanese press that VPEC ordered 5-10 Aixtron MOCVD in 2021 and the final delivery/installation is to finish by mid 2022.  WIN Semiconductor plan to increase 10% capacity next year using the existing fab, and triple its capacity by operating a brand new fab in south Taiwan by 2023-2024.

Hi Guys,

sorry again for the long absence period. My BioNTech shares and private contacts keep me very busy.

Concerning the Nexperia communication I was wondering is someone else stumbled over this:

Wingtech Technology, Nexperia’s parent company, commit RMB12 billion ($1.85 billion) to building a new 300mm (12-inch) power semiconductor wafer fab in Lingang, Shanghai. This factory, which will go live in 2022, will have an estimated annual output of 400,000 wafers.

Is Wingtech an Aixtron customer?

Not that I know of.  Since it is a 12 inch fab, it is probably a conventional silicon fab.

It is reported in the market that WIN (3105) , a leading gallium arsenide manufacturer , is working with Lumentum, a major American VCSEL design manufacturer, to join Apple’s upcoming AR/MR headset supply chain. In the future, the three parties will launch a comprehensive R&D cooperation plan. Take this opportunity to lay out the business opportunities of Meta Universe.

The latest report issued by the mainland foreign capital today (9) pointed out that Apple’s AR/MR head-mounted device will be equipped with four sets of 3D sensors, which are more than one or two sets of high-end iPhone models, and are used for gesture control and objects. The specification of the structured light for detection will be higher than that of the iPhone's Face ID, and WIN will play a key role...

564 Postings, 6253 Tage fel216VW investing € 89bn until 2025 into electrificatio

Hi all,

VW announced today in their "Planungsrunde 70", that they will be investing no less than 89bn into electrifying the group and its product range until 2025. By 2026 25% of all cars sold have an electric drive.

I would be surprised if that does not have a positive impact on SIC which I assume is an important driver for all E ambitions in auto-land.

Also an announcement like this should give the auto supply chain more comfort in investing on their behalf as they see a big player going boldly into this direction.

Fel

We initiate coverage with an Equal-weight rating. We think current valuation reflects elevated sales (highest in a decade already), albeit with momentum in power electronics. Aixtron trades at 14x EV/EBIT and 21x P/E , in line with the growth rates of European/global semi cap peers and in line with peer ROCE benchmarks.

Industry watch: New EV opportunities for the supply chain
Colley Hwang, DIGITIMES, Taipei
Wednesday 15 December 2021

...Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y with combined shipments of 443,000 vehicles in 2020 as an example. Tesla used a total of 60,000 pieces of 6-inch SiC wafers and the amount is expected to reach 80,000 pieces by 2024. Tesla currently uses power semiconductors on inverters alone. It is expected to be more than three times the business opportunity if the use of power semiconductors extends to all power modules. We expect more and more EVs will adopt SiC semiconductors. Their uses are getting diverse and extensive.

Taiwan has formed an industrial chain of SiC semiconductors. GlobalWafers, Hermes, Huahsu and Win Semi develop substrates. Win Semi, Huahsu and Episil Precision also develop epitaxy technology...

A customer of Aixtron will roughly double its SiC and GaN epi wafer capacity in Q2/22 according to Taiwanese press.  I think that would be 5-10 G5's.
