What are micro LEDs? There is a lot of hype in the market where a lot of people talk about, oh, I have a micro LED. Yes, we have a micro LED, too. I think there are a lot of those things going on. A micro LED is actually an LED chip the size or smaller than 100 micron. Why are they so attractive today? Imagine you can shrink a high-resolution video wall down to any size with the same characteristics. What are they? Less power consumption than projection or displays, crisp colors. You can read them in broad daylight. I show you later something where there is a spot full on, but you do not even see any problem on that. So the industry is interested in using micro LEDs for high-resolution displays that you can have on the outside or inside, in any kind of illumination areas. And you can use it to create transparent displays, windows with a display functionality. The chips are so small, you put them in a window and when they are on you have the information, but you have it on a window. That is happening right now as well, so this is basically what is happening in this industry. So what you have is usually red, green, blue chips, you need to process them and then you need to place them. Sounds easy. You can do it today to use chips like 200 micron, place them somewhere, but the manufacturing processes are quite expensive. You need to first pick them, assemble them, connect them, drive them, and if you go down to chip sizes of onemicrometer, that becomes a real challenge. It will take probably several more years before we really see that it will hit the market in a larger-scale environment. We have been working on micro LEDs since more than five years. Today, and that is also working with our partners, we are the technology leaders for micro LED chips of a size of smaller than ten micrometers. We have all the colors you need in-house – red, green, and blue. We have the best efficiency in small red chips, which is a challenge. And of course, we have a high-scale six-inch production where we can utilize our capacities in the same way. And of course, we are continuing our research to go down to even sub two micrometer LED chips because the markets will require them. Mini LEDs are available today. We have been producing them since 2000. And they are in most of the products. Now, the question is: Can you assemble them like in a video wall panel? That is one assembly process and that is where we will introduce a mini LED video wall from the next fiscal year onwards into the markets, for that market. And what you see today from other vendors, they are actually mini LED displays, they are not going too much down, they only announce that they have activities down to chip sizes 40, 50 micron, which we also do. We will, nevertheless, with our customers and capabilities, focus on premium applications first. Of course, video walls, bring them down in size. I will show you some demos of what is happening in that market. Automotive displays, because we have a great automotive footprint. Pixelated headlamps, it is micro LED in the next generations. Augmented reality glasses, to have a really good, crisp, small projector, micro LED is the technology to go for. In this regard we are quite active, but it will still take a couple of years, application for application, until you can really see that it will hit the market. It will happen probably '22/23 before we see large-scale applications happening.
