China Venture Forum: China Stock to Watch for Monday, June 25: SUWN Applauds World Health Organization Findings on Stevia: Evidence Shows Stevia Effects Patients with Hypertension and Type II Diabetes

6/25/2007

Shanghai, China, Jun 25, 2007 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX News Network) --

China Venture Forum, an equity research newsletter of micro- and small-cap China Stocks, announced China Stock to Watch for Monday, June 25, 2007 includes Sunwin International Neutraceuticals, Inc. (OTCBB: SUWN).

By 2050, an estimated 48 million Americans will have type 2 diabetes as the epidemic continues unabated, according to new federal projections.

But along with the disease will come increases in accompanying health problems, such as blindness and hearing loss, according to several presentations to be made Saturday at the American Diabetes Association annual meeting, in Chicago.

"From 1963 to 2005, we saw periods of sharp increase in the rate of diabetes cases," said Linda S. Geiss, chief of diabetes surveillance at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and lead author of the first presentation. "Increases in diabetes cases have been going on for 15 years, and it doesn't look like it's slowing down," she added.

Reviewing data from the National Health Interview Survey, Geiss' team found that from 1990 to 2005, cases of diabetes increased from 26.4 per 1,000 people to 54.5 per 1,000 people, a 4.6 percent increase each year.

Geiss believes the diabetes epidemic is largely being driven by obesity, which is also epidemic in the United States. "It's alarming that diabetes has grown for the last 15 years, and it doesn't show any signs of slowing," she said. "That means, for a long time to come, diabetes is going to be a major public health problem."

Humans seem to be born with a sweet tooth. This has spawned a multibillion-dollar industry for the development of sugar alternatives.

Interestingly, nature has provided a sugar substitute called stevia. Wild stevia is a perennial shrub native to the Amambay mountain region in Paraguay. It has been used for centuries by the natives as a sweetener and in the 1800s was "re-discovered" and used throughout Latin America. In 1931, stevioside was isolated as the active part of the stevia leaf. The Japanese use it and today it accounts for about 41 percent of their total artificial sweetener market.

Stevia has some very interesting properties. It has no calories but has actions similar to several currently used medications. It stimulates the release of insulin and normalizes the response to glucose, especially in type 2 diabetes. It is used in Latin America as an inexpensive therapy for hyperglycemia.

In good medical studies, regular consumption of stevia also reduces high blood pressure without reducing normal blood pressure. Medical publications have shown that it affects calcium transport in a way that is similar to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers (like verapamil), which commonly are used to treat high blood pressure. In laboratory animals, stevia also can induce diuresis or water release, similar to diuretics also used to treat high blood pressure.

In 2007, the findings of a World Health Organization (WHO) report indicated "stevioside has shown some evidence of pharmacological effects in patients with hypertension or with type-2 diabetes."

Earlier in 2006, the WHO performed a thorough evaluation of recent experimental studies of stevioside and steviols conducted on animals and humans, and concluded that "stevioside and rebaudioside A are not genotoxic in vitro or in vivo and that the genotoxicity of steviol and some of its oxidative derivatives in vitro is not expressed in vivo."

"While the WHO concluded that further research is needed to fully assess the health benefits of Stevia, we are confident that in 2007, international research will continue to prove that Stevia is a safe and effective alternative to other sweetening agents," said Steven Silbert, Executive Vice President of Sunwin Stevia International Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sunwin International Neutracruticals, Inc. (OTCBB: SUWN).

"As Sunwin prepares for the U.S. launch of the Only Sweet line of products, we believe Stevia use in the U.S. and around the world will continue to grow in 2007 and beyond," Mr. Silbert added, "Only Sweet is an all-natural, zero-calorie dietary supplement containing Stevia manufactured by Sunwin International Neutraceuticals. In fact, the WHO report estimated significant Stevia intake in various nations around the world. In both Japan and China, for example, the demand for Stevia is estimated at approximately 200 tons per year." Mr. Silbert concluded, "As sugar consumption in the U.S. rises, along with serious medical conditions such as diabetes and obesity, it is more important than ever for people to utilize healthful alternatives like Stevia." We believe our "Only Sweet" line of products is positioned perfectly as the best choice for today's health conscious consumers. We use proprietary technology to process the seed of the Stevia rebaudiana plant that enables us to produce what we believe to be the highest grade Stevia in the industry. Management believes our "Only Sweet" line of products is far superior in taste than any other Stevia product and provides benefits that exceed those of any other synthetic sweeteners on the market."
