A National Instrument 43-101 compliant resource estimate for its B-Zone rare earth deposit was completed by Wardrop Engineering in April 2010. The base-case resource was estimated using a Total Rare Earth Oxide (TREO) cut-off grade of 0.85% TREO. At this cut-off, the B-Zone hosts an Inferred Resource of 114.8 million tonnes grading 0.999% TREO, 1.973% zirconium oxide, 0.208% niobium pentoxide, 0.053% hafnium oxide and 0.082% beryllium oxide. In addition, Table 2 illustrates the grade averages for all of the Rare Earth oxides at the various cut-offs.

Title:  Quest Rare Minerals Mobilizes Crews to Commence Strange Lake REE Project Exploration, Quebec
Text:
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 6, 2010) - Quest Rare Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:QRM) is pleased to announce that that it has mobilized exploration crews to the Strange Lake project area to commence the Corporation's most ambitious exploration program in its young history. Support crews have been working in the area since late March to transport material and supplies in preparation for this year's exploration effort and to construct a 50-man, winterized exploration camp on the property. A four-rig, 15,000-m definition diamond drilling program on the B-Zone REE deposit constitutes the principal focus of Quest's exploration efforts. Reconnaissance mapping, prospecting, geochemical sampling and test drilling will also be undertaken to better define the resource potential of four new targets identified on the property during the 2009 exploration program. A 20-50 tonne bulk sample will be collected at the end of the summer so as to undertake pilot mill studies on the B-Zone mineralization.

"Our Strange Lake exploration plans are by far the most ambitious that Quest has ever undertaken and exploration personnel have been working diligently throughout the winter months to ensure success of the program," stated Peter J. Cashin, President & CEO of Quest. "The objective of this year's exploration program is to have the data in hand to improve the quality of the B-Zone Resource outlined by our recent Preliminary Resource Estimate. In addition, our intentions are to expand the B-Zone deposit at depth and of the east, to collect a larger bulk sample for advanced metallurgical study, to assess exciting new exploration targets elsewhere on the property and to be in a position, ultimately, to decide whether the program should proceed to pre-feasibility."

B-Zone Resource Estimate (April 2010)

The results of a 43-101 Preliminary Resource Estimate for the B-Zone deposit were submitted by Wardrop Engineering (see Press Release: April 16, 2010 and Table 1) which indicated that, at a 0.85% total rare earth oxides (TREO) cut-off grade, the B Zone contains an inferred resource of close to 115 Mt at 1.0% TREO. Furthermore, this resource calculation demonstrated the extremely Heavy Rare Earth oxide (HREO) rich nature of the B Zone , determined to be between 43-51% HREO and that the percentage of HREO content increases with increasing percent TREO.

Metallurgical Studies and Preliminary Economic Assessment

Wardrop Engineering is currently undertaking a Scoping-level Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) of the B-Zone resource to establish economic models for the deposit. In addition, Hazen Research is currently completing final metallurgical testing studies of a one-tonne bulk sample collected from the Zone in 2009. Quest's metallurgical engineers report that the results from this work should be delivered soon and will be incorporated into the PEA study. Results from both of these studies are expected to be reported on by early August 2010 and will be used as a guide to future developments on the project.

2010 Strange Lake Rare Earth Exploration Program

The Strange Lake property is located 220 km northeast of Schefferville and 125 km west of the Voiseys Bay Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Mine (see Figure 1). The property comprises a total of 1,333 claims, covering an area of 540 km2 in Quebec and Labrador (see Figure 2).

The 2010 Strange Lake program will significantly expand the level of activity of the 2009 program. An extensive diamond drilling program, utilizing four drill rigs and comprising up to 15,000 m, is envisioned. Of the total amount of drilling, a full 13,000 m will focus on definition drilling, at 75 m spacing, of the existing B-Zone resource and is intended to improve the quality of the current resource to the Indicated and Measured category. As well, deepening of existing drilling below last season's 75-150 m limits, is intended to probe the vertical extension to the B- Zone. More widely-spaced drilling, at 150 m centres, will focus on definition of the eastward extension of the airborne geophysical anomaly that defines the Zone and where exploration crews had identified surface mineralization a further 1.1 km to the east (see Press Release: August 19, 2009).

A total of 2,000 m of exploratory drilling will be directed to assessing the economic potential of new mineralized targets defined from 2009 reconnaissance exploration at the Apurna Lake, SLG, B-East and A-Zone areas (see Figure 3). Significant rare earth mineralization up to 16.7% TREO (B-East), 3.9% TREO (SLG), 4.7% TREO (A-Zone) and 0.95% TREO (Apurna Lake) was returned from grab sampling of bedrock and locally-derived boulders in these areas in 2009 (assay results are illustrated in Table 2). Follow-up reconnaissance work will be completed in the early part of the 2010 program and a determination of the best targets requiring diamond drill testing will be made.

A supplementary resource calculation by Wardrop will also be undertaken in late 2010 for completion by mid-2011. Planned exploration also includes the collection of a larger bulk sample (20-50 tonnes), additional Pilot-scale metallurgical testing and mineralogical assessment of the B- Zone deposit. A determination to proceed to a pre-feasibility or feasibility will be made upon completion of this phase of the Strange Lake work, likely in the latter part of 2011.

Quest Rare Minerals Cracks the B-Zone Metallurgical Code, Reports REE Recoveries of Between 77% and 93%

Text: TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 12, 2010) - Quest Rare Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:QRM) is pleased to announce that it has successfully developed a metallurgical process to bring the rare earths oxides and exotic metals from B-Zone deposit into solution at its Strange Lake project, Quebec (see Figure 1, 2). Hazen Research, Inc. reports that the extraction of rare earths from the B-Zone, between 77% and 93%, are generally in excess of the extraction to solution reported for previous metallurgical work conducted by the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC, 1985) and Mitsui Mining & Smelting (1996) on the historical Main Zone deposit to the southeast. The ultimate process flow-sheet developed from Hazen Research's work will be applied to pilot mill studies on a 20-50 tonne bulk sample to be collected from the B-Zone this summer.

"We are most satisfied with the success that Hazen has had in liberating the rare earths from B-Zone mineralization," stated Peter J. Cashin, President & CEO of Quest. "The flow-sheet appears to be equally successful in processing all grades of mineralization that Quest provided for this metallurgical test. Equally encouraging is the fact that the mineralization can be processed without the need of expensive concentrator technology in the ultimate mill design for the deposit. Hazen will now look at optimizing the process flow-sheet in order to reduce grinding requirements on the mineralization, reduce sulphuric acid addition to the mill feed in the leach phase and to increase leach times in an effort to further improve REE recoveries and ultimately, optimize recovery costs."

Metallurgical Test Results

Table 1 below is a compilation of experiments conducted on the various grades of mineralization recorded for the B-Zone. Variations of acid concentration, grind size and ore grade were tested to observe their effect on rare earth and rare metal recovery from the mineralized samples. In general, un-reacted zircon in the leach residues, including the acid bake residues, is believed to have accounted for the majority of the unrecovered rare earths and rare metals in the metallurgical test. A detailed listing of metal recoveries by the various experiments is listed in Table 2. The best recoveries were obtained from the whole-ore acid-bake experiments without the need of pre-concentration methods at the finest grind (experiment 3316-47) which recorded recoveries of 92% for neodymium (Nd), 87% for yttrium (Y), 89% cerium (Ce), 93% gadolinium and europium (Gd, Eu), 92% terbium (Tb), 90% dysprosium (Dy), 88% for holmium (Ho), 78% for thulium (Tm), 83% erbium (Er) and 77% for ytterbium and lutetium (Yb, Lu).

"The Hazen work has pointed out a pathway to open up the exotic metal-bearing minerals observed in the B-Zone and it appears that the acid bake procedure effectively cracks the high grade, medium-grade and low-grade of mineralization used in the Hazen test work," said Joseph M. Keane, P.Eng., Quest's consulting metallurgical engineer. "Down the road, procedures for separating the dissolved metals to produce marketable products will need to be addressed. Optimization studies directed to grind size, acid addition regime, acid consumption and heat requirements are indicated for future investigation."

Metallurgical Test Procedure

In January 2010, Hazen Research, Inc. received a one-tonne bulk sample obtained from core-drilling representative of the surface exposure of the B-Zone REE deposit discovered by Quest (see Press Release: November 19, 2009). The sample was separated into three mineralization types, designated high-grade, low-grade (mid-grade) and altered (low-grade) and treated separately by Hazen. Following crushing and grinding, the high-grade sample was subjected to several benefication (pre-concentration) methods. The sample was evaluated using gravity (heavy-liquid) separation, froth floatation, shaking table, centrifugal separation and magnetic separation. The magnetic separation method was the only procedure that eliminated mass (45%) with minimal rare earth losses (4-6%). The REE losses for the remaining pre-concentration methods outlined above were deemed unacceptable. An additional a series of experiments on the high-grade mineralization revealed that the REE could be effectively liberated by acid leaching of the whole-ore without the need of pre-concentration. In addition, the discovery that the REE recoveries could be further improved by applying an acid-bake step to the leach experiments was subsequently made. The acid-bake procedure is explained below.

In an acid bake process (see Figure 3), pulverized feed material (ore or concentrate) is mixed usually at room temperature with concentrated sulfuric acid. The mixing must be prompt and intimate so that all of the solid particles are wetted by the sulfuric acid. The resulting mass has the appearance of a moist cake or it can be a paste. The test flow-sheet requires that a 25-50 g sample of material be finely ground (minus 13, 74 and 149 microns), then prepared and sent to a Teflon leach flask containing 350 kg of sulphuric acid (H2SO4) per tonne of mineralization equivalent and heated to 80 degrees C. Once in solution, the leached material is exposed to an acid-bake procedure in an open vessel at high acid concentrations and heated to 225 degrees C for one hour. This step was immediately followed by a two-hour leach at 80 degrees C and 5% H2SO4. The leach liquor is sent for analyses of rare earths as well as zirconium (Zr), hafnium (Hf), niobium (Nb), thorium (Th) and beryllium (Be). In addition, once cooled, the leach residues are exposed to mild H2SO4 at 10% solids at 80 degrees C and then dried. The residue solids are then recorded for mass and sent for chemical analyses.

Future avenues of investigation by Hazen are to review and test mill throughput with the application of magnetic separation pre-concentration of rare earths from the B-Zone, to reduce acid consumption in the metallurgical practice, increase the grind size of the subsequent samples tested and to improve recoveries of Zr as a means of improving REE recovery in the test work.

Quest Rare Minerals Receives Results of Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) for Strange Lake B-Zone      Text:   TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 9, 2010) - Quest Rare Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:QRM) -

Highlights:

--  Wardrop Engineering PEA results show positive cash-flow, a strong     Internal Rate of Return and strong Net Present Value metrics at discount     rates of up to 20% for a potential mining operation at Strange Lake       --  The mine model calls for an open-pit production rate of 4,000 tonnes per     day, requiring a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of $563.4 million     (including a 25% contingency), a payback in the fourth year of     production and a minimum mine life of 25 years       --  Rare Earth Oxide (REO) prices used in the study are based on recent     published projections in a NI43-101 compliant Prefeasibility study and     were validated using 2007 three-year trailing average prices, calculated     based on the distribution of the metals associated with the B-Zone     deposit       --  The mine, crushing and slurry plants would be built on-site, with     crushed ore transported to the Labrador coast via a slurry pipeline       --  The mill/concentrator, storage, tailings and port facility would be     developed at Anaktalak Bay, near the site of the Voisey Bay Ni-Cu-Co     Mine port infrastructure       --  Optimization work is advancing and has shown success in developing a     more cost-effective and efficient metallurgical processing method than     was previously announced by Quest for the B-Zone mineralization

Quest  Rare Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:QRM) is pleased to announce that it has  received results of a positive Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) of  Quest's Strange Lake B-Zone Rare Earth Element (REE) deposit from  Quest's independent consultants, Wardrop Engineering Inc., A Tetra Tech  Company (Wardrop). The results show positive cash-flow, a strong  Internal Rate of Return and strong Net Present Value metrics at discount  rates of up to 20% for a potential mining operation at Strange Lake.  The Strange Lake property is in northeastern Quebec, approximately 175  km northeast of Schefferville, Quebec and 125 km west of the Voisey's  Bay Ni-Cu-Co mine in Labrador.

Quest expects to receive a copy of  the final PEA report from Wardrop shortly. The final PEA report, which  will be in compliance with National Instrument 43-101, will be filed on  SEDAR and available under Quest's company profile at www.sedar.com.

The  Wardrop study utilizes an open-pit mining operation model and a Total  Rare Earth Oxide (TREO) price deemed conservative, as it is similar to  the 2007 trailing three-year average price. Accepted consensus is that  REE prices have increased since 2007. For this study, the total tonnes  of concentrate produced of TREO, Nb2O5 and ZrO2 were considered  marketable and contribute to revenues in the financial model.

Wardrop  applied a conventional Truck and Shovel open-pit mining operation model  to the Strange Lake B-Zone deposit at a production rate of 4,000 tonnes  per day (tpd), using the 1.0% Total Rare Earth Oxide (TREO) cut-off  presented in the Preliminary Resource Estimate previously reported by  Quest (see Press Release : April 7, 2010: 40.4 million tonnes grading  1.161% TREO, 2.07% zirconium oxide (ZrO2), 0.25% niobium oxide (Nb2O5)  and 0.053% hafnium oxide (HfO2), see cautionary statements below). Total  operating costs per tonne of ore milled are estimated to be C$102/t.  Under these project parameters, detailed in Table 3 below, the B-Zone  operation would pay back capital expenditure (CAPEX) and have a positive  accumulated cash flow in the fourth year of operation, show positive  pre-tax cash-flows of up to C$368.2 million per year, an Internal Rate  of Return (IRR) of 36.4% and a Pre-Tax Net Present Value (NPV) of C$1.41  billion at a 12% discount rate. The project remains strongly positive  when applying up to a 20% discount rate (see Table 1). Life-of-Mine  Total Pre-Tax cash-flows of more than C$7.97 billion have been  calculated.

  Table 1 - Pre-Tax Net Present Value (NPV) Calculation - Strange Lake                                B-Zone Deposit  -------------------------------------------------- Discount Rate              Pre-Tax and Pre-Finance Net Present Value ($CAN) 6%                                                           $3,149,211,228 8%                                                           $2,383,979,541 10%                                                          $1,825,703,831 12%                                                          $1,410,907,859 15%                                                            $969,415,008 20%                                                            $521,691,996 --------------------------------------------------

A  minimum 25 years of production life for the mine is envisaged. CAPEX of  C$563.4 million will be required for establishment of the mine,  mill/concentrator, site utilities and storage, road and slurry pipeline  construction to the Labrador coast, tailings facilities and  infrastructure development required for the operation. A 25% contingency  cost ($99.3 million) was included in calculating total project  expenditures.

Metal pricing used in the study is based on 2010  projections reported for a similar Rare Earth project and was validated  using trailing three-year average pricing. The following metal pricing  is used in the financial analysis (in US$): TREO - $21.94/kg, Nb2O5 -  $45.00/kg and ZrO2 - $3.77/kg (Table 2). If three-year average pricing  for TREO were used for the metal distribution in the B-Zone, a TREO  price of approximately US$36.00/kg would result and the IRR would  increase to more than 50%. At full production, the operation would  produce more than 22,600 t of TREO concentrate, more than 4,800 t of  Nb2O5 concentrate and nearly 40,200 t of ZrO2 concentrate annually.

Sensitivity  analysis of the model indicates that the operation would be most  sensitive to changes in metal pricing and least sensitive to changes in  operating costs. An exchange rate of $1US equals $1.04CAN was used in  the study. Details of the Wardrop PEA resource model have been posted on  Quest's website home page at www.questrareminerals.com.

"In  Quest's opinion, the Wardrop study results confirm that the B-Zone  deposit has the potential to be a long-term provider of critical Heavy  Rare Earths to world markets," stated Peter J. Cashin, President and  Chief Executive Officer of Quest. "We believe that the financial-model  estimates used in the PEA are conservative, as they apply historical  average metal pricing. Project economics improve substantially if  current TREO prices are used. In addition, our  metallurgical-optimization studies currently being carried out by Hazen  Research indicate that Quest may be able to lower future estimates for  the processing costs used in the PEA by decreasing acid consumption in  the leach phase and using a coarser grind size at the concentrator than  originally reported in July 2010. Our on-going drilling of the Strange  Lake deposit continues to expand the size of the higher-grade surface  resource reported in April 2010. This upgraded data will be incorporated  into our economic model once a revised Resource Estimate for the  deposit is completed, which we expect will take place in 2011", added  Mr. Cashin.

Wardrop General Project Description

The  project includes an open pit mine site located at Strange Lake (see  Figure 1) and a processing operation located on the coast in close  proximity to the existing operation at Voisey's Bay, east of Strange  Lake. Previous Strange Lake feasibility studies produced by Iron Ore  Company of Canada (IOC) and Kilborn Engineering contemplated that  Schefferville, Quebec would be the primary location for treating the  ore. The facilities located at Schefferville have since been removed and  a new harbour facility to support the Vale Inco Newfoundland &  Labrador Ltd. Voisey Bay nickel operation has been built at Anaktalak  Bay by Vale. This harbour is located 125 km from the Strange Lake mine  site. An access road to Anaktalak Bay along an existing esker is  favourable as the road can be constructed, given that an abundance of  required sub-structure material is naturally available. This layout was  deemed to be the most efficient conceptual mine-concentrator layout  available to Quest and Wardrop and would be the most-cost effective of  several options considered in the development of the PEA model.

For this  project, Wardrop determined that the mining operation will use a  conventional Truck and Shovel open-pit mining method. The mine will  provide mill feed of ore at a rate of 4,000 TPD starting from the middle  of the second year of mine life. The Strange Lake deposit is close to  surface with minimal overburden cover.

The overall mining  sequence was developed in three phases: one initial pit phase (Phase I)  and two pushback phases (Phase II and Phase III). The mine development  for the ore and the waste will progress using 12 m high benches (see  Figure 2). The mine phases are designed to access the higher-grade ore  closer to surface as early as possible in the mine life. The following  figures showcase the sequence of phase development (see Figure 3).

The  project includes consideration for the mill and tailings to be  constructed on the coast at Anaktalak Bay. The project includes a mill  operating from a barge and tailings storage on the coast. The mill  construction could benefit from the experience gained in the development  of Cominco's past-producing Polaris zinc operation. The final TREO  product would be shipped to market or stored during periods when  shipping lanes are closed.

Wardrop has compared the cost of  trucking the ore against pumping it from the mine to the mill. The  preliminary results indicate that the pumping option offers superior  financial results.

The mine plan has been based on use of diesel  equipment with diesel generators to provide electrical power at the  mine, crusher, mill and camp facilities.

Processing  concepts are based on earlier flow-sheets which include a flotation  circuit, acid leach/baking and a solvent extraction process producing a  single TREO product. Significant cost savings are included in reagent  consumption, as the Vale by-product of sulphur pastilles from its Long  Harbour facility in Newfoundland provides a cheaper source of sulphuric  acid compared to the supply of liquid sulphuric acid.

Opportunities  exist for future process optimization based on recent results by Hazen  Research (see Press Release : August 12, 2010). These results indicate  improved whole-ore recoveries through leaching. Other potential  opportunities for improvements are currently being studied; they include  coarser grinding, reductions in acid consumption, improved  beneficiation, and the use of a single solvent to recover all the rare  earth oxides.

Quest awaits the results of the 2010 definition  drill program, currently being undertaken on the B-Zone. Results from  this program will be used to formulate an upgraded resource estimate for  the deposit. The new resource will be used to make a decision to  proceed to a pre-feasibility study of the B-Zone. In addition, Quest  plans to commence Pilot Plant-scale metallurgical testing on the  mineralization and to prepare for environmental baseline and preliminary  engineering studies in 2011.

Quest Rare Minerals' B-Zone Definition Drilling Extends REE Deposit to Over 309.0 Vertical Metres, Strange Lake, Quebec
Quest Rare Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:QRM) is pleased to report the first results from 2010 diamond drilling of their B-Zone rare earth element (REE) deposit. The drilling is intended to determine the vertical extent of the mineralized system defined in 2009, to improve the confidence of the continuity of the system, and to better define the higher grade pegmatite resource observed to outcrop at surface as defined by previous Quest drilling. The

apropo 65 year minelife ;)

Hoffe konnte helfen
