House Rejects Senate Bill to Extend Payroll-Tax Cut CNBC, The Associated Press | 20 Dec 2011 | 02:13 PM ET The House has rejected a plan backed by President Barack Obama to extend a two percentage point payroll tax cut for two months. Responding in a press conference, President Obama called on the GOP to reconsider, calling the Senate payroll tax cut is the "only viable option," and urged the House to "put politics aside and give the American people the assurance they need."
Obama also reiterated his stance that if Congress fails to pass the tax-cut bill the lawmakers will be endangering the U.S. recovery.
Obama said, "The clock is ticking. Time is running out." |
