01.02.2011 14:42 MedeFile and PrescriptionDrugs.com Team to Offer Consumers Better Solution for Tracking and Managing Medications
BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- MedeFile International, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: MDFI) , a leader in portable patient-centric electronic medical record management solutions, today announced that it is teaming with PrescriptionDrugs.com to offer consumers the MedeFile solution to better enable them to track and manage their prescribed medications and avoid potential life-threatening drug interactions.
PrescriptionDrugs.com is a free online resource for comprehensive drug discount and couponing programs for prescription drugs, as well as helpful, in-depth health news, articles and reference materials related to medical conditions and their prescribed treatments. The popular web destination enjoys tens of thousands of visitors each month who rely on the site to educate them on their prevailing health and medical conditions and save up to 70% on the drugs prescribed to treat them.
According to a September 2010 NCHS data brief released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over the last decade the percentage of Americans who took at least one prescription drug increased by 10%. The use of multiple prescription drugs increased by 20% and the use of five or more drugs increased by 70%. Moreover, among older Americans (aged 60 and over), more than 76% used two or more prescription drugs and 37% used five or more.
Serial entrepreneur Michael "Zappy" Zapolin, Founder of PrescriptionDrugs.com, noted, "The prescription of two or more drugs for simultaneous use by a patient raises the possibility that one of those drugs will affect the intensity and duration of effect of the other(s), and can introduce the possibility of serious side effects occurring. It is widely accepted in the medical community that patients can reduce their risk of drug interactions by keeping each of their doctors well informed about all drugs being prescribed to them."
Through the use of MedeFile, subscribers have the ability to electronically store all prescriptions, tests, scans, reports and regimens so, with authorization by the subscriber, every doctor, clinic, hospital or pharmacist can see a clear picture of the subscriber's medical conditions and prescribed treatments. More specifically, after the subscriber enters his or her doctors, hospitals, emergency contacts, prescriptions, medical conditions and other pertinent information about their medical history into the MedeFile system, MedeFile does the rest. Experienced professionals at MedeFile gather and process all of the subscriber's records, paper or electronic, X-rays, MRIs, etc. and then transforms them into digital images - either on demand by the subscriber or at a minimum, every quarter without subscriber prompting. Using its proprietary software, MedeFile then indexes the records by date, provider, and record type or by a customized theme, enabling the subscriber, his or her doctors, pharmacists, caretakers - or anyone they choose - to find the relevant medical information they need, quickly and easily.
Continuing, Zapolin noted, "Clearly, the MedeFile solution is a very robust electronic medical record management system that is very simple to use. But, what resonated with us was the fact that it offers patients - particularly those with multiple care providers -- the ideal mobile solution for storing, tracking and managing their prescription medications. Moreover, it delivers users the value-added benefit of automatically cross-checking prescriptions for potential adverse interactions that could at a minimum result in unpleasant side effects; or at worse, result in failed treatment or loss of life. Consequently, we are very pleased to endorse the patient-centric MedeFile system and make this highly complementary solution available to our web users."
Kevin Hauser, Chief Executive Officer of MedeFile, stated, "By aligning with PrescriptionDrugs.com, we can effectively target, educate and ultimately empower potentially thousands of new MedeFile subscribers. This is an important new relationship for our Company and one we expect will contribute measurably to our growth as we persist in our global market penetration efforts."
