Prominent trade publication The Energy Daily named AMSOLAR Corporation as an Honorable Mention for Most Successful Energy Start-up Company in its 2010 Leadership Awards list last week.
The recognition was given for the company’s ongoing work with the University of San Diego (USD) to construct the 8th largest solar-power system on a North American college campus.
“We’re proud of this achievement, but prouder still of how the award is a reflection of the amazing work that our teams of solar industry veterans, finance experts, experienced electrical contractors and educators have done in such a short period of time,” said Joshua Weinstein, Managing Partner of AMSOLAR Corporation. “Not only do they understand the unique opportunities educational institutions have when it comes to solar energy, but are creating and implementing innovative solutions to help them meet their sustainability efforts while generating savings on their energy costs from Day One.”
The Energy Daily's annual leadership awards reflected nominations from industry and the views of its editors and other industry experts on the most influential executives and companies. The Most Successful Energy Start-Up category recognized only two new energy companies in the United States that launched in 2008 or beyond, with a notable achievement, one being AMSOLAR Corporation.
Specifically, the publication took note of its partnership with the USD, where the school is paying nothing to have the 1.23 Megawatt system implemented on nine buildings which include residential halls, academic buildings, a parking structure and the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Instead, the panel installation is being funded through federal stimulus grant funds awarded to AMSOLAR, and the company will own and operate it through a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement, and sell the power to USD at a reduced rate.
“In addition, through AMSOLAR GIVING, our corporate giving and community action program, we will be actively engaging with the USD campus and broader community, presenting and funding programs to promote solar energy awareness, education and exploration," said Weinstein. “These efforts are not an adjunct to what we do, but core to our mission, and provide us with a structured way to help us develop programs that strengthen the role of alternative energy in our own backyard as well as around the world.”
