Flight Safety Foundation Responds to Latest 737 MAX Hearings by FSF Communications Staff | October 29, 2019 Alexandria, Virginia — In a statement released today in response to the latest congressional hearing involving the Boeing 737 MAX grounding, Flight Safety Foundation President and CEO Dr. Hassan Shahidi said: “We commend Congress, the Federal Aviation Administration, Boeing, and the many airworthiness and accident investigation authorities for their rigorous review of these terrible tragedies. One thing is clear: The wonder of human flight can never be risk free, as those involved in designing, manufacturing, certifying, flying, and maintaining increasingly sophisticated aircraft cannot eliminate the prospect of human error. What we can and must do is apply lessons learned from these accidents and the resulting investigations and technical reviews to ensure the world’s safest form of transportation becomes even safer. What we cannot do is make airworthiness decisions based on politics or speculation, nor undermine the carefully built system of strong oversight, prudent delegation and reciprocal recognition in certification.”
