In the Ostrobothnia and Vaasa regions, there are a number of wind power projects being planned, and the law on feed-in tariff for renewable energies was passed by the Parliament to become effective on 1 January 2011. At the moment, planners and land-owners are awaiting that the law will be passed by the EU commission, after which building plans are expected to accelerate. The employment effects of wind power building have been studied in various papers (e.g. Svenska Energimyndighetens Jobb i Medvind & Fallstudie för Havsnäs), which show that for every installed megawatt, the building phase employs 10 man-years and the operation 0.3 man-years. A frequent challenge is that a large part of the employment effects is of advantage to companies coming from outside the region. This applies especially to foreign suppliers of technology. The concentration of energy technology companies in the Vaasa region is well equipped to meet the future need of wind power components - but competence in planning, building and operation is needed. In order to be able to meet this need, a group of representatives for the Novia University of Applied Sciences, YA Vocational Education and Training and the Vaasa Adult Education Center lead by VASEK and the Technology Centre Merinova left for a study trip to Strömsund to take a closer look at the wind power park and the two-year course to become a wind power technician offered by the Hjalmar Strömerskolan College. The delegation was greeted with interest and the visit was covered by the Swedish Radio Channel P4, local newspapers and the municipality's web portal. Cooperation was initiated in the field of education, and opportunities for a natural cooperation between companies in these two regions - and not least in wind power - might just be around the corner! Participants: Raine Vasanoja, VASEK Stefan Malm, VASEK Mikael Ventin, Novia University of Applied Sciences Björn Brännbacka, YA Vocational Education and Training Kenneth Sundlin, YA Vocational Education and Training Tommy Jungerstam, YA Vocational Education and Training Timo Männistö, Vaasa Adult Education Center Markus Raunio, Vaasa Adult Education Center |
