Robert has been an auto enthusiast his entire life. He started working cars at a young age, learning the basics from his father in the home garage on the weekends. As time went on, Robert became more and more interested in cars and convinced his father to teach him how to drive when he was just 13 years old. Robert continued working on cars in his free time and learned as much as he could about engines, transmissions, and car electrical systems, something that only fed his curiosity more and eventually led him to earn a bachelors degree in automotive technology with a primary focus on engine performance and transmission rebuilding.
By the age of 19, while he was still in college, Robert was working as a part-time mechanic, and by the age of 20 he passed his final test for the State of Michigan to earn the title of Master Mechanic. From the age of 20 to 27, Robert worked as a full-time mechanic, eventually earning the title of lead mechanic at the age of 23. Roberts other passion, writing, was always on the forefront of his mind, however, and after 7 years as a mechanic, he took his toolbox home and started his career of freelance writing for various automotive sites. Today, Roberts primary position is working as Topspeed.coms Editor-in-Chief, but he continues to work out of his own garage, doing everything from basic repairs to certified and professional performance upgrades to American, European, and Asian vehicles. |
