Does a Tempur Sealy acquisition of Mattress Firm make sense? This investment firm says yes : https://www.furnituretoday.com/financial/...investment-firm-says-yes/
Mattress Firm’s withdrawal of its initial public offering earlier this week has industry watchers spinning on what a possible acquisition by Tempur Sealy International could look like. A Wedbush analyst said earlier this week that the withdrawal could be a sign that Mattress Firm was up for sale with a possible buyer lined up. In a report published today, covering a range of topics relevant to the bedding industry, Piper Sandler’s Peter Keith, senior research analyst, and Matthew Egger, research analyst, outline four considerations regarding a possible acquisition of Mattress Firm by Tempur Sealy. The acquisition, the report posits, is possible, and it goes on to say that “we believe TPX has likely been interested in buying MFRM for many years given the accretive nature a larger DTC footprint would bring to its business.” Such a deal “would likely be highly accretive to TPX as it would likely double the profitability of sales through MFRM by taking a third-party wholesale margin and making it into a DTC margin.” Interestingly, the analysts’ note comments on a possible reaction from other Tempur Sealy retailers by pointing to 2017 when Mattress Firm and Tempur Sealy ended their relationship. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO1AJFbD9Ys
