Rakuten Ragri to Partner With Tanita’s New Business “TANITA CAFE”
- Collaboration with Tanita to jointly develop café menus and products using organic vegetables - Tokyo, March 8, 2018 – Rakuten Ragri, the agricultural service managed by Rakuten, Inc., will partner with Tanita Corporation to jointly develop original menus and products using vegetables provided by Ragri for Tanita’s “TANITA CAFE” business.
Ragri is an online community-supported agriculture (CSA) service in which individual farmers produce crops on the basis of orders received directly from consumers. The service allows farmers to earn a stable monthly income while also helping address labor shortage issues in the agricultural sector by supporting new agricultural workers. Vegetables supplied through the Ragri CSA are grown primarily by farmers who have acquired the Organic JAS certification and are engaged in specialized cultivation activities such as pesticide-free or reduced-pesticide farming.

: Rakuten to enter Japan's mobile phone market
The government is set to allocate radio spectrum to Rakuten Inc as the e-commerce company plans to enter the country's mobile phone market with its own wireless network, officials said. Rakuten is expected to start its service in 2019 in the market.
Rakuten eyes raising around 600 billion yen ($5.6 billion) to build its own wireless network and is planning to locate network bases at utility facilities including those of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc.
The company is aiming for over 15 million subscribers, including those of its existing low-cost mobile virtual network operator business Rakuten Mobile.
Rakuten is hoping its entry into the mobile carrier market will provide a comprehensive package of e-commerce and mobile communications services, attracting more users by providing enhanced benefits for online shopping.
