SuperShuttle airport transport van service to go out of business at year-end
Published: Dec 26, 2019 2:26 p.m. ET

LOS ANGELES (AP) — SuperShuttle, the shared-van service that has carried passengers to and from airports across the U.S. and in Latin America, Canada, Europe and Asia, is going out of business, according to a newspaper report Thursday.
A letter obtained earlier in December by the Los Angeles Times from the company to a Los Angeles–area franchisee says: “SuperShuttle plans to honor all reservations and walk-up requests for service” through Dec. 31.

Founded in 1983 to serve Los Angeles International Airport, SuperShuttle has lost ground to competitors such as Uber UBER, -0.16% and Lyft LYFT, -0.37% . In recent weeks it has pulled out of airports serving many cities, including Phoenix, Baltimore and Minneapolis, the Times said.

Custom Comparables, Powering Your Private Company Valuation Analyses
Zachary Hickey November 25, 2019

Custom Comparables is a powerful new feature available on the Cyndx platform that displays select valuation multiples for similar, publicly traded companies based on your search criteria.

In one simple step, companies can be added, or removed, from your search criteria to dynamically adjust the relevant publicly-traded companies included in the analysis, thus, customizing the valuation displays results based on your specific query.

Leveraging a dataset of over 7.9M companies, you can identify the most relevant comparables based on operating activities and business models. From here, you can easily establish a framework for valuations based on public company trading metrics; the comparables modal displays the average, minimum, maximum, and median EV/Revenue and EV/EBITDA multiples for each set of publicly-traded companies.

BY GEORGIE HOOLE 10 JUNE, 2019

When you’re in a city as busy and bustlin’ as London, it can be hard to decide how to spend your time. Fortunately, Fever is on hand to help…

Yep, sometime you’re just too busy to make plans, and wind up back in bed with Netflix – but there’s a nifty way to solve that. Fever is an events discovery app that uses a special algorithm to recommend the best things to do according to your interests. Which means it’ll only show you events that suit you. Partial to a pop-up? Here, have some pop-ups. Bit of a brunch queen? Oh, you can bet that Fever has a few of those to show you…

Used by over 15 million people from all over the globe—in places like London, Paris, Barcelona, New York, and Los Angeles—Fever invites you to be inspired by all the incredible things that are happening in your favourite cities. You can adjust the filters at any time, choosing categories such as festivals, food or nightlife, and even modify your search to specify a particular date or location.

62174 Postings, 7053 Tage LibudaIt's hard to stay mad at a company that just

clocked in with a 63% surge in quarterly revenue

Business is booming

Personal mobility is here to stay. Lyft and Uber are posting double-digit revenue gains, growing at the expense of old-school ways of getting around and even vehicle ownership trends. The financial reports they put out earlier this month are far more exciting than their stock charts.

Revenue at Uber rose 30% to $3.8 billion in the third quarter, more than doubling the 14% year-over-year top-line increase that rattled investors three months earlier. Growth has been decelerating at Lyft, but it's hard to stay mad at a company that just clocked in with a 63% surge in quarterly revenue. Lyft's growth is a combination of a 28% increase in active riders and a 27% boost to its revenue per active rider. In short, we're leaning on the only two car services that matter more and more with every passing quarter.

Lyft is growing briskly as a pure play on North American personal mobility. Uber is the much larger player with a strong international presence. Uber also has operations in restaurant delivery and freight that are growing even faster than its flagship service.

Rakuten TV has garnered 10 million views on its free on-demand service since its launch in October. The streamer’s CEO, Jacinto Roca, told Variety that, buoyed by the early AVOD success, it will launch a suite of new channels and original shows on the ad-supported service in 2020. He added that he hopes the free service will notch a billion views next year as Rakuten TV ramps up.

“We launched less than two months ago and have had a million users and over 10 million views,” Roca said of the AVOD platform, which is available in over 40 territories in Europe. “The first months have been better than expected.”

Rakuten, formerly called Ebates, is a rewards platform that gives you cash back for shopping online and in person at your favorite stores.

The best part?
Rakuten is 100% free. You never pay anything to use the site.

Plus, you often earn more cash back through Rakuten than you would with a rewards credit card. (Of course, you can maximize your savings by using both.)

Ebates.com was founded in 1998 in Menlo Park, California. It was acquired by Rakuten in 2014 and officially changed its name and logo in 2019.

Today, the site has over 10 million users and has issued out more than $1 billion in cash back rewards.

It was one of the first cash back sites to hit the scene in the late 1990s, and it’s arguably the most well-known online discount site today. (Well, Ebates is a well-known name. Rakuten still needs a few years to catch on.)

Rakuten eyes doubling of ad revenue by 2021 via new movie studio

Internet services provider Rakuten has revealed plans to synergise its joint venture with film production company, The H Collective for the various businesses under its wing, including its advertising arm. According to Nikkei Asian Review, it looks to double its advertising revenue in 2018 to US$1.88 billion by 2021 by leveraging production of TV commercials based on scenes from Rakuten movies.

Leveraging the new co-owned Rakuten H Collective Studio, which was first announced at the start of August, it also aims to benefit its other business units such as retail, television, telco and travel.  In the news report, Rakuten’s group executive VP Makoto Arima explained that the intellectual property (IP) created by the studio will create a “significant impact” in expanding the company’s ecosystem. He added that Rakuten aims to distribute the movies produced by the studio globally, including adapting IP into merchandise that can be sold at its online marketplace.

Meanwhile, the original programming can also be added to its video platform Rakuten TV. The company, which plans to roll out its own 5G mobile network in 2020, aims to tap on the expanded movie library to acquire new customers for the service when released. Rakuten Travel, on the other hand, plans to offer tours to locations featured in the movies.

Earlier this month, Rakuten said the joint venture is a move to contribute to the “revitalisation of the entertainment industry around the world”.

62174 Postings, 7053 Tage LibudaThe profitability problem of 5G is no problem for

Rakuten

What consumer-facing 5G service plans will look like is an open question but, if you zoom out, that’s not the most pressing problem. The most pressing problem is that, in some developed markets, mobile penetration has passed 100% meaning there’s only so many SIM cards a carrier can sell to you and me. So the next step is to connect everything else–robots, cars, industrial equipment, whatever.

5G isn’t just about the radio access network, Kaul said. It’s about virtualization, artificial intelligence, machine learning, the internet of things and enterprise enablement. “When we talk this language, I think we will solve a lot of things. Putting another radio that gives you speeds and feeds, you will never monetize that. But if you create use cases that will solve the world’s problems, you will monetize.”

Azimo achieves profitability as new CEO Richard Ambrose takes over
By Oliver Smith on 28th August 2019

New boss plots Asia expansion ahead, with a possible IPO on the horizon.

Seven-year-old money transfer firm Azimo has reached profitability in the second quarter of 2019, making it one of just a handful of fintech startups to have reached break-even.

The news comes as COO and former PayPay exec Richard Ambrose takes over as CEO from co-founder Michael Kent who is stepping into the role as executive chair of the company.

Azimo says it’s enabled more than $2bn worth of transactions from over a million customers since 2012, and has seen the volume of transfers increase by 60% year-on-year.

The company is also weighing up plans for an IPO, now that it’s reached profitability, which AltFi understands has a working timescale of being 18 to 24 months away.

Next on Ambrose’s agenda will be Asia, where the company has launched and plans to expand across the continent later this year.

Azimo currently supports payments in over 80 currencies and more than 190 receiving countries.

Barclays Says
By Esha Dey
10. Dezember 2019

The good news, according to analysts Jeffrey Meli, Adam Kelleher, Ryan Preclaw and Ross Sandler, is that Uber and Lyft are well-positioned to achieve profitability.

The analysis looked at how higher prices affected the number of Uber and Lyft rides, and found that they can raise prices to achieve an operating profit with only a modest impact on volumes, “disproving a key piece of the bear case.”

For their part, Lyft has said it would turn a profit by the end of 2021, while Uber expects to be profitable on an Ebitda basis in 2021.

The analysts also found that the social impact of ride-hailing has been a “net positive,” and that despite a “correlation to gentrification, ride hailing increased rides in the least gentrified neighborhoods by 50 times, and filled a gap in transportation infrastructure.”
