Summary

Increased sapphire production indicates that the company has already landed a spot in Apple's upcoming devices.
GT Advanced Technologies' Polysilicon business also gathering a steady pace.
Apple's patents point to the fact that the company will use sapphire in its upcoming iDevices.
Although Apple rumors are unofficial, GT Advanced Technologies is an excellent buy.

The rumors on the web indicate that Apple will be integrating sapphire into the iPhone 6, and this is great news for GT investors as the company appears to be in agreement with the Cupertino-based company to supply sapphire....To date, GT has received around $440 million of the $578 million of total prepayments that are to be received from Apple......

Advanced Sapphire Furnace customers are running at high utilization rates due to demand, and the company has sufficient capacity to meet this surge in demand. The new ASF165 technology increases the batch size by over 40% and reduces production cost. This new ASF platform will be available to new customers as well which are aiming for the LED and the industrial markets. The ASF165 configuration is expected to increase revenue in the second quarter.

The company has also made progress in the polysilicon market with considerable increase in supply and pricing. Spot poly prices exceeded $20 per kilogram for the first time since 2012 in the first quarter. It is expected that the prices will continue to rise and will touch the mark of $24 per kilogram by the end of this year. ......

Apple's recent LiquidMetal Patent is again a strong indicator of the fact that the company will use sapphire in the iPhone 6. Apple is planning to use LiquidMetal and sapphire to make the screen of the iPhone 6, which will make its glass shatter-proof. .....

79561 Postings, 8944 Tage KickyBidness Analyse .was passiert bei GTAT

.....Apple agreed to pay GT Advanced a total of $578 million for a series of pre-orders of sapphire crystal glass for its iPhone 6, and possibly for its iWatch. Apple committed to the deal so that GT could finance a sapphire crystal manufacturing plant in Mesa, Arizona. By the end of the first quarter of its 2014 fiscal year (1QFY14; ended March 31, 2014), Apple had already made payments worth $440 million.

With the manufacturing plant close to completion, the Mesa City Council is expected to grant GT Advanced Technologies competitive advantage through the formation of a free-trade zone. A free-trade zone is an area where manufactured output for export is not subject to tariffs and duties, unless they are not marketed domestically. A company operating in a free-trade zone can also import raw materials without paying duties.

The creation of a free-trade zone would benefit GT Advanced Technologies in multiple ways, as the diversified technology company would be allowed to import raw materials from all around the world without paying a single cent in tax. The imported raw material can then be converted into finished products and exported back to Apple’s manufacturing plants in China. The free-trade zone would also enable GT to benefit from a lower property tax.
Insider Selling

Yesterday, GT Advanced President and CEO Thomas Gutierrez unloaded 78,054 GT shares at an average price of $15.77, for a total value of almost $1.23 million. Now Gutierrez owns 168,899 GT shares, valued at $2.66 million.

The company also disclosed another insider seller in its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Vice president and chief administration officer, Hoil Kim, also sold 43,854 shares of the company for a total transaction value of nearly $697,000. Kim now owns 44,991 GT shares at an approximate value of just over $715,000.

GT Advanced reported revenues of nearly $299 million at the end of its 2013 fiscal year (FY13). Going forward, analysts expect revenues to increase 134% year-over-year (YoY) in 2014 to $700 million; their projections are based primarily on increased orders from Apple for its iPhone 6. In 2015, revenues are expected to further increase 74% to $1.24 billion, as the company is expected to receive more orders from other smartphone and tablet manufacturers.

Apple will launch its iPhone 6 in the second half of the year, which will use sapphire glass produced by GT Advanced Technologies. Sapphire is known for its toughness, hardness, and scratch-resistance. Apple sold some 150 million iPhones last year and has thus far sold nearly 94 million this year.

Currently, the company is trading at a premium of 44.6% to the S&P 500 index’s forward P/S ratio of 1.64x. 79561 Postings, 8944 Tage KickyGTAT More Than Apple's Hottest Supplier

http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/06/30/...-apples-hott.aspx

stock has been on a tear since announcing an agreement to supply Apple  (NASDAQ: AAPL  )  with sapphire for upcoming products (presumably as soon as the iPhone 6). Apple's choice to go with GT Advanced Technologies not only gave the company a secure source of revenue, it validated what management has been saying about sapphire being a viable cover screen material, opening up a huge market for the company.

Sapphire and all of the upside that goes with it is important for GT Advanced Technologies, but it's not the only market GT Advanced Technologies is targeting. There's also huge upside in solar, where the company got its start. If all goes well, this will create a more diverse revenue stream than relying on Apple long-term.

Solar is GTAT's past and a big part of its future
For years, GT Advanced Technologies has been a solar company. It was a key supplier to some of the world's biggest solar manufacturers, benefiting from the buildout in polysilicon and PV supply that flooded the market. But the good times ended when the buildout phase came to a halt because of an oversupply of solar panels and GT Advanced Technologies saw revenue and profits plunge as a result.

..now installers are demanding higher efficiency panels. To bump up efficiency and meet demand, companies will be upgrading equipment, and that's where GT Advanced Technologies thrives.

The company's HiCz product has been in the pipeline for years but it just received its first major order from Qatar Solar Energy, which has opened a 300 megawatt facility and plans to expand to 2.5 gigawatts. If the technology performs as well as advertised, allowing efficiencies of over 23% on a cell level, I'd expect demand for HiCz furnaces to pick up this year and be booming in 2015.

Merlin Advanced Metallization Technology also provides interesting upside, reducing the need for silver paste that is often a large part of a module's cost. This is an integration further up the value chain and integrates the company deeper into customers supply chains. .......As the solar market reaches its next phase of growth and better technology is demanded, GT Advanced Technologies should see a new growth market emerge. The lull of demand that came from oversupply in the industry appears to be over and that's great news for companies like GT Advanced Technologies who are always pushing technology further. ....

79561 Postings, 8944 Tage KickyWird Sapphire Corning Glass zu Geschichte machen?

Summary

Use of sapphire in the Apple iPhone is almost confirmed, and this is bad news for Corning.
Apple partner GT Advanced Technologies is improving sapphire technology, reducing Corning's chances of retaining its iPhone spot.
Even Samsung is now looking at sapphire, indicating that the Corning's Gorilla Glass might eventually lose traction.
Corning is already seeing some weakness in the business, with profit declining in the previous quarter.

........Apple partner GT Advanced Technologies is already making rapid strides to improve sapphire technology and production. GT had entered into an agreement with Apple, which was worth $578 million, to supply sapphire for use in iDevices. Now, Apple and GT are expanding the sapphire plant in Arizona. As reported by TechCrunch:

"A planned expansion could suggest that Apple is looking to do more volume with its sapphire production late this year and into next than it had previously intended. Rumors suggest that the company is looking into the possibility of releasing two new devices by the end of the year, including both a 4.7- and a 5.5-inch iPhone."

Moreover, GT's sapphire technology is improving at a good pace. Its ASF165 technology leads to an increase of over 40% in batch size, and also reduces production cost. Moreover, the technology is backward-compatible, which means that existing 115 kilogram installations can also be ported on to it.

Samsung, on the other hand, is also thinking of using sapphire in its phones going forward. As reported by Forbes, Samsung has enquired regarding sapphire screen samples from ingot and wafer manufacturers....

International Business Times also states the same when it says that, "The Cupertino giant is expected to release a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models of iPhone 6 with scratch-free sapphire crystal glass screen." .......

may be imminent
http://wallstreetforensics.com/...screens-confirmation-may-imminent/?

... It is possible that GT Advanced Technology investors will receive confirmation that the 4.7″ iPhone 6 will indeed be made with sapphire crystal displays very shortly.  I personally expect both, the  4.7″ and the 5.5″ iPhone 6 models to be covered with sapphire crystals so any confirmation of sapphire screens is just icing on my cake.  More importantly, GT’s stock price is not factoring in sapphire cover screens for the iPhone 6 and any confirmation that can be made will and should ignite shares of GT to new record highs.

Interessant auch dass der neue Kunde von Meyer Burger mit dem 80 Millionen Auftrag vermutlich GT Advanced Technology ist

GT has worked closely with Meyer Burger for several years to the extent that GT was aware of Meyer Burger technologies that were previously under research and development and were not available in the market place.  On November 7, 2012 GT’s CEO Tom Gutierrez opened up about GT’s close relationship with Meyer Burger:

“ And finally, several new technologies are being brought to market that will further drive cost reductions and optimizations. One such example is Meyer Burger’s recently introduced bricking wire saw, which is expected to make the harvesting of bricks from a sapphire boule economically feasible and significantly less expensive than the current rotary blade saw processes in use. Through our partnership, we’re also aware of several other fabrication technology improvement and second-generation techniques currently in development that could have a very significant impact on the cost of producing sapphire screens. “

....The latest reports are now claiming that the next device might line up for 12 September as its mass production is in the pipeline.

A number of statements from different sources have claimed the launch date of the iPhone 6 over the past couple of weeks. ApfelPage, a German website speculated that it will be released on 19 September, giving the leaks from German wireless carrier Deutsche Telekom as a reference.

Apart from that, Nikkei and a research note by UBS Managing Director Steve Milunovich (via Barron’s) also mentioned that iPhone might surface on the international arena somewhere in August or September.

Meanwhile, Macrumors highlighted that Apple is imminent to release iPhone 6 in the first fortnight of September.

If we look at the past releases of Apple, we can figure out that it launched its iPhone devices on Friday. So in the light of this hypothesis, it should be 12, 19 or 26 September.......

GT Advanced Technologies is down almost 13% after a UBS downgrade.
However, GT's prospects look strong as it has been revealed that Apple is expected to use sapphire in the iPhone and the iWatch.
GT is also looking well-positioned in its solar and LED businesses.
GT's prospects and projections already look strong, and investors should consider using the drop to buy more shares.
......

Enter the iWatch

There are rumors in the market that Apple could use a sapphire display in the iPhone 6, and these rumors look all but confirmed. If this happens, GT would be in a profitable position. In addition, there's a probability that Apple will use sapphire for its upcoming iWatch, along with the iPhone. According to a report on MacRumors:
http://www.macrumors.com/2014/02/11/sapphire-iwatch-iphone-6/
......    the volume of raw material and equipment Apple is purchasing hints at much bigger plans than a 2-inch watch display. Apple allegedly has ordered enough furnaces to manufacture approximately 200 million 5-inch sapphire displays, a volume which would meet the yearly demand for its iPhone product line. In 2013, Apple sold approximately 150 million iPhones worldwide."

If GT is also supplying sapphire for the iWatch, then it would be a solid boost for the company. ......As reported on Business Insider:

"Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty is out with a very bullish forecast for Apple's iWatch. Huberty is predicting Apple does $17.5 billion in iWatch sales after the first twelve months it's on the market....Projections and fundamentals

GT's bottom line is expected to accelerate at a terrific rate. According to analysts, the company's bottom line will improve 123% this year, followed by a whopping 875% next year. The long-term forecast is promising as well, with its bottom line expected to grow at a CAGR of 48% for the next five years.

In addition, the company has solid fundamentals. It has total cash of $406 million on the balance sheet, which easily covers its debt of $289 million. Also, at a forward P/E ratio of just 23, GT looks like an enticing investment as its earnings are expected to grow at a terrific rate.

79561 Postings, 8944 Tage KickyWhy Apple's iWatch Will Have A Sapphire Display

Summary

The UBS downgrade doesn't make sense, as GT Advanced Technologies can produce enough sapphire for the iDevices.
Since a sapphire display is scratch-proof, it is ideal for the iWatch.
The cost of producing sapphire for the iWatch is lower than for any other device. ....

The recent UBS downgrade claims that Apple will not have enough sapphire to satisfy the demand of the iDevices; however, I think that this assumption is wrong. ....Back in March, Appleinsider reported that Apple is planning to increase the production of the Arizona-based sapphire plant to 1,700 furnaces to make sapphire boules in bulk. However, as stated by analyst Matt Margolis, the number has increased to over 2,500 furnaces. Matt said:

GT's Salem, MA facility measures 50,000 square feet and is likely home to several hundred furnaces in addition to the 2,500 + furnaces that have been installed in the Mesa, AZ facility. GT's Salem sapphire facility may add up to 20 million sapphire screens on top of GT's annual capacity of 200 million plus annual units grown from inside the Mesa, AZ sapphire plant. The UBS downgrade claims that the iPhone 6 will not use sapphire display due to supply constraints; however, as stated above, Apple will have enough sapphire to produce over 200 million iPhones.......
