Sands Bethlehem Handles $60 Million for Memorial Weekend
The new Las Vegas Sands (LVS: 9.82 +5.25%)-operated casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, celebrated the best opening for a casino in the state ever after handling $60 million in gambling this weekend.
The previous record for an opening day at a Pennsylvania casino was set at Harrah’s Chester in 2007, with a handle of $9.8 million. The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem did $18.37 million Friday.
Sands officials say they are delighted with initial returns from the new gambling facility. They caution that a realistic forecast of future revenue will be easier to make once a normal, non-holiday week passes.
Of that $60 million, almost $6 million was gross profit for Las Vegas Sands and the casino. Local counties and towns have already calculated their share of opening weekend, estimating the revenue generated at over $200,000. |
