EM: Could you tell us about the ROK companies that gave birth to ROK Mobile?
JK: It’s confusing because John Paul and I have about 15 companies, all called ROK. The main public one is ROK Stars, and that’s listed on the exchange. That company handles alcoholic beverages. We own a 700-year old brewery that we just bought in Bavaria. We own the Marula oil health care brand, which employs thousands of women in Africa who make the stuff for us. We have a diamond company called ROK Diamond, and ROK Global is our technical company. We’ve formed ROK Water, which we’re developing to solve the water crisis in California.
EM: Where does the name ROK come from?
JK: I don’t normally tell people this. I sort of retired in ‘98 or ’99. I was driving my wife nuts, and she said you’d better go back and do something. So I formed a new company called ROK, which stood for “Return of Kendrick.” And that’s the truth.
