CRISTAL’S first partner for using CristalACTiVTM photocatalysts in paint formulations, Boysen Paints, has reached an agreement with US-based Environmental Imports, Inc. to distribute KNOxOUTTM Air Cleaning Paint in the United States.
KNOxOUTTM has made waves in the paint industry as the first air-cleaning paint in the world with CristalActivTM technology and its ability to reduce noxious air pollutants. Aside from the United States, Boysen KNOxOUT has also established distribution partners in Europe, Hong Kong, Japan and Malaysia; with negotiations ongoing for other countries. “We are thrilled to embark on this partnership with Boysen to introduce KNOxOUT to the US,” said Paul Rode, CEO for Environmental Imports, Inc. Together with Cristal and the Manila Observatory, Boysen Paints, the Philippines’ leading paint brand, has conducted the world’s largest depolluting paint trial to date at an urban rail transit station along the busiest avenue in Metro Manila. The trial involved installation of 15 pollution sensor and painting over 6,200m2 using close to 700 liters of KNOxOUT. It demonstrated the ability of the material to remove more than 100g of NOx per m2 per year. “Air pollution is a problem in most major cities around the world,” said Johnson Ongking, Vice President of Boysen. “Eliminating emissions of NOx and other air pollutants would be the best solution but that is not yet possible in today’s world. Painting a wall with KNOxOUT is one of the few ways for people to take an active part in cleaning out the NOx that we put in the air. By transforming ordinary walls into air purifiers with a few brush strokes, people all over the world can be part of the movement for cleaner air.” To date, one of the most successful initiatives of Boysen for the environment is the Boysen KNOxOUT Project: Everyone Deserves Safe Air (EDSA). This urban renewal initiative seeks to lessen air pollution in EDSA, which is considered to be one of the most polluted thoroughfares in the Philippines. Using Boysen KNOxOUT as the medium, eight large-scale art works (measuring 1,000m2 each) done by local and international artists of note, aimed to purify NOx emitted by at least 8,000 vehicles. It was a unique mix of art and science to help raise public awareness about urban air. Like many Asian urban centers, Manila’s air is a health threat to its population. Metro Manila was cited in a 2005 World Health Organization report as having the fourth most polluted air in the world. A study by the World Bank and the Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) estimated that breathing |
