Fourth-quarter net profit before results on divestments rose 24% to 461 million euros and the bank also proposed a 12% dividend hike to 1.16 euros a share.

Shares in Fortis slipped 1.4% in Belgium. The bank's shares had previously gained over 30% since October, hitting a high of 30.70 euros at the end of February before slipping back in the last few days.
"While there's no indication that the purpose of the theft was the draft text under embargo, Fortis has, in the interest of transparency, decided to bring forward headline information," the bank said.
