THE FANTASTIC CORPORATION ANNOUNCES AN OPEN INTERFACE FOR THIRD PARTY APPLICATIONS
Providers to take advantage of Broadband Multimedia
Zug (Switzerland), June 14, 2000 - In response to the rapidly expanding broadband marketplace, The Fantastic Corporation announced today the release of an Application Programming Interface (API) for the Fantastic broadband broadcast platform. This API is the first in a series of tools designed specifically for application partners and customers to broadband-enable their products and services on top of Fantastic's end-to-end broadband multimedia platform. This released API is part of a larger Fantastic program to bring the power of broadband broadcasting to those companies and industries that are restricted by the bandwidth and performance limitations of traditional Internet environments.
"Fantastic's APIs will enable us to accelerate the rollout of the Wavexpress service across North America," said Cliff Jenks, President and CEO of Wavexpress. "We are pleased to have a strategic partnership with Fantastic to offer customers content-rich broadband media delivered directly to their PCs."
"Broadband access to multimedia services is poised for explosive growth, and many of our customers who are developing these services can shorten their time-to-market significantly by developing applications on top of our broadband distribution platform," said Peter Pircher, Chief Technical Officer of The Fantastic Corporation. "Integration with the Fantastic platform not only provides our partners with a technical foundation for their broadband corporate strategy, but we can also assist them through our strong business relationships with global broadcast network providers."
Wavexpress is just one example of a Fantastic Application Partner that will be making use of the new API and other tools scheduled for release later in the year. These products give Fantastic Partners direct integration access to all three primary components of Fantastic's broadband multimedia distribution platform: The Channel Editorial Center (CEC) for content, community and schedule management, the Channel Management Center (CMC) for controlling broadcast bandwidth and the MediaSurfer, Internet browser plug-in, that receives and filters content for end-users.
The Fantastic Corporation (Zug, Switzerland) is the leading provider of end to end software solutions for broadband data broadcasting. This is an emerging communications technology which combines point-to-multipoint digital broadcasting with point-to-point Internet connectivity, in order to deliver rich interactive media content to PCs, digital set-top boxes or handheld devices (including 3G mobile phones) over any broadband IP network.
By merging the inherent bandwidth and speed benefits of broadcasting technologies with the interactivity of the Internet, broadcast data provides superior content distribution and interaction in an increasingly IP-centric world. Fantastic's end to end software supports the rapid growth of the "data broadcast" industry.
Fantastic's customers are typically in two categories. The first includes network operators, satellite companies and any other company providing broadband data transmission services. The second category is content providers, such as media or entertainment companies, or any organisation wishing to transmit large volumes of digital data to target receiver groups quickly and efficiently.
Fantastic is a public company, quoted on the Frankfurt Stock exchange using the symbol: FAN
