Kicky : Canadian Solar Q2 was lief falsch?
Everyone knows that solar trades together with the price of oil.
We may see negative EPS as there are no more projects to be sold in the current quarter.
The market has experienced volatility around the yieldco valuation.
Japan is not going well as originally planned.
Let's explore these one by one and you can decide whether you should accumulate shares (if you think these problems will be short-lived) or sell the bounce.
Canadian Solar will have no projects to sell in Q3. Given its own Q3 guidance of $570 - $620 million and a gross margin of 12%-14%, the company is likely to deliver about 78 million in gross profit. If it cannot meaningfully lower its operating expenses and manage its foreign exchange loss, Canadian Solar will have negative EPS rather than the average estimates of $0.23 as presented on Yahoo Finance.
Yieldco is cooling off
... As an investor, I probably will not care whether the company chooses action A or B (as long as I know how to properly evaluate the course of each action), but I fear the company does not even know which one to choose.
Another disappointment is the progress in Japan's utility market. When the company released its 20-F back in April 2015, it expected to connect about 80MW in 2015. However, it only connected about 5.2MW so far in Q2 and now only expects to connect 19.6MW in 2015. Canadian Solar did not give a reasonable explanation and this leaves investors in the dark as one would think "is the same thing going to happen in 2016?"
... long-term holders should not panic and take the opportunity to accumulate shares whenever there' a panic in the market.
