8x8 Introduces DV324 Desktop Videophone
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- 8x8, Inc. (Nasdaq: EGHT - news), the pioneer of affordable videophone appliances that work over ordinary phone lines, today announced at the international Consumer Electronics Show the DV324(TM) desktop videophone, the newest member of 8x8's award winning family of consumer videophone products. The DV324 videophone is one of two new consumer products announced by 8x8 at the CES show.
The DV324 is a fully self-contained desktop telephone with caller-ID that includes an integrated color LCD screen with adjustable tilt and video controls, a digital camera, handset, keypad and speaker. The DV324 plugs into a standard analog phone line (POTS) and operates like a normal telephone. Controls on the telephone keypad enable the user to begin a video call with another H.324 compatible videophone product. The DV324 can also communicate with previous members of 8x8's ViaTV set top videophone product family and with H.324 videophone software running on personal computers.
The DV324 does not require a personal computer. Installation and operation of the DV324 is easier than ever -- simply plug it in and connect it to your phone line. With its intuitive keypad interface, accessing the more advanced features are a snap.
``The DV324 is targeted to consumers who do not own personal computers or who prefer to communicate with their friends and families with telephones versus computers. With the DV324, out of town relatives can continue to 'see' their family members regularly by just calling them on their DV324 and 'going video,''' explained 8x8 Video Program Manager, Scott Dike.
Like its predecessors, the DV324 incorporates semiconductor and software technology from Netergy Microelectronics, Inc., a subsidiary of 8x8, Inc. As a result, the DV324 offers many advanced features found only in high-end corporate videoconferencing equipment costing thousands of dollars.
These advanced features are accessed via a user friendly on-screen menu and include such functions as: electronic pan-tilt-zoom control of the local or far-end camera, privacy functions, a snapshot mode for sending high quality still images, adjustable picture quality and size, brightness and hue controls, and auto answer. The DV324 provides two inputs for external audio and video sources with which to optionally attach an external device such as a camcorder or digital camera. The unit's audio and video output allows for the optional use of a television or larger monitor to see and hear the other party with larger groups of participants.
``The DV324 is the perfect videophone for families or businesses that do not have access to broadband technologies. The DV324 offers the best quality video available over analog phone lines,'' commented Bryan Martin, 8x8's President and COO. ``We were the first company to offer a truly affordable videophone product to consumers and, with the introduction of the DV324, 8x8 continues to be the leader in affordable multimedia communication solutions.''
The DV324 is available today for a suggested retail price of $499 each. To purchase or to obtain more information, visit 8x8's web site at www.8x8.com or call 408-727-1885.
