GCL-Poly, a supplier of polysilicon and silicon wafers led by billionaire Zhu Gongshan, said on Thursday evening that revenue climbed by 274% to HK$18.5 billion, or $2.4 billion, in 2010 from HK$4.9 billion a year earlier. Net profit HK$4.0 billion, compared with a loss of HK$200 million in 2009. Production last year was boosted after the company bought 71% of Konca Solar Cell, a Chinese wafer supplier. The company also increased its own output, and says it is the world’s largest wafer supplier. The company last year signed contracts to supply Trina Solar, Canadian Solar, and China Sunergy. In October 2010, it also signed up Indosolar of India as a customer. Brokerage CLSA in a report this week put a “buy” on GCL-Poly’s stock. It has already gained 78% in the past year. |
