LONDON — High-school comedy “Fack Ju Göhte 2,” the sequel to the 2013 German box-office hit, has broken German box-office records for a local film’s opening weekend.
Bora Dagtekin’s movie, which stars Elyas M’Barek and Karoline Herfurth, attracted 2.1 million cinemagoers and earned a box-office gross of Euros 17.7 million ($20 million) over the weekend. This is the best opening in Germany for any film this year and the best German movie debut ever.
The first film, which had the international title “Suck Me Shakespeer,” grossed more than $75 million at the German-speaking box office, and went on to a successful international career with sales to more than 30 countries. |
