Israel's Municipalities to roll out EasyPark™ Electronic In-Vehicle Parking Meter Nationwide Rosh Pina, Israel, November 9, 1999
EasyPark Ltd., and Israel's Local Government Economic Services organization, have set the official date for full nationwide roll out of EasyPark™ the electronic in-vehicle parking meters for January 2nd, 2000.
EasyPark Ltd., a subsidiary company of On Track Innovations Ltd. (OTI), won the Israeli tender for Israel's nationwide electronic parking project. The first stage of implementation of the EasyPark system started in mid 1999, in the city of Haifa, and was enthusiastically accepted by the users.
"We are very pleased to have come so far after years of investing in the development of this leading parking system" said Mr. Eran Tamir, General Manager of EasyPark Ltd. "We were very encouraged by the warm acceptance of the EasyPark™ in its first stage of implementation. People really like this product as it simplifies the entire parking process. By January 2000 we will start mass supplying of the EasyPark cards".
The EasyPark™ Electronic Parking System was designed to provide a comprehensive solution for both curbside parking as well as collection of parking fees in public and private lots. EasyPark™ provides a turnkey system with advantages for drivers, parking inspectors, the local municipality and the fee collection agent. Beside distribution of cards, EasyPark Ltd. will handle the clearing and the points of sale as well as the supply and maintenance of the readers.
The core of the system is the patented EasyPark™ card, a durable, read/write battery-free, contactless, multi-application smart card. OTI's contactless smart card technology forms the read/write process between the EasyPark™ card and the reader. Communication between the EasyPark™ card and the parking attendant's reader is encrypted to ensure highest protection level against fraud.
Because the system is easy to use, it simplifies payment for parking and therefore increases compliance. The system increases parking revenues while improving the level of service to the public.
The same Electronic Parking Card can be used for electronic payment in parking lots, once parking lots owners adopt the system. Thus, drivers will use only the EasyPark™ Card for street parking as well as for parking lots applications.
EasyPark™ is activated by an on/off push button.Time calculation is stopped the moment the meter is halted; accordingly only de-facto parking time is measured and charged. The electronic parking meter can be re-charged by using cash or credit cards at special terminals located in gasoline stations and malls. When re-loading the card, the already collected parking fees are automatically transferred to the accounts of the relevant municipalities, which have been pre-defined in the software of the system. .
Parking regulations are easily enforced. By visual sight or by presenting the reader in front of the electronic meter, parking attendants can verify that the timer has indeed been initialized and the correct parking zone indicated. Parked cars, that do not comply with regulations can be fined on spot.
EasyPark™ is another implementation of OTI's microprocessor-based contactless smart card technology. This cost effective and easy to use parking system is now being installed on a nationwide basis in Israel as well as being piloted in other countries worldwide.
