Non-Farm Productivity Surges

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The efficiency of U.S. workers soared in the second quarter of
the year as workers produced more and more goods and services while labor costs declined,
helping keep inflation in check, the Labor Department said Tuesday. Non-farm productivity,
measuring the output per hour of workers outside the farm sector, rose at an annual rate of 5.3
percent between April and June, up from a pace of 1.9 percent in the first three months of the
year. Year-over-year, productivity was up 5.1 percent, the highest such gain since the third
quarter of 1983 when productivity was up 5.3 percent over the previous year.

Produktion wächst - Arbeitskosten sinken.
