Project Summary:
It has been at least a decade since the discovery of an important new massive sulphide district. Recent results indicate that the Salazar Resources Ltd. Curipamba project in central Ecuador is becoming just that. The El Domo deposit has all the characteristics of a classic Kuroko-type volcanic hosted massive sulphide (VHMS) deposit.
The project is located on the western slope of the Andes, about 900 meters above the coastal plane. The rock units are mid-Eocene age and as such, with the exception of a few pre and post-mineralization faults, they have not experienced extensive deformation. The Curipamba project is in a volcanogenic massive sulphide environment with evidence of submarine deposition of sulphides. The deposit lies in relatively simple volcano-sedimentary stratigraphy. A felsic unit of dacite flow and clastic rocks is immediately overlain by the massive sulphide unit that is composed of massive to semi-massive sphalerite, chalcopyrite and pyrite lenses, intercalated with debris flows and volcaniclastic and seafloor sediment. The sulphide layer is predominantly overlain by andesitic pyroclastic rocks.
The results from initial geochemical surveys were anomalous and the subsequent induced polarization geophysical survey identified several targets. Drilling has confirmed that the economic sulfides are present in several locations. An inferred resource of 4 million tons with a grade of 3.48 grams of gold per ton, 76.33 grams of silver per ton, 2.51% copper, 4.55% zinc and 0.47% lead has been calculated for El Domo, one of the anomalies of the Las Naves area. The El Domo deposit is in a stratbound, horizontal layer at a relatively shallow depth and is open in three directions.
Additional drilling of this target and other targets in the Curipamba project could add significantly to the potential resources. The Curipamba Project is a new gold and base metal massive sulphide camp in western Ecuador.
