In the CC Fleix has made it very clear that the new SiC tools have been going through beta customers qualifications at all major SiC players. Once qualified, the tools would be ordered in small numbers first. The SiC power semiconductors applications are only beginning, so not many tools are required, yet. For example, read the October 2018 II-VI announcement carefully:
"The 150 mm production facility in Warren, NJ is expected to be qualified for GaN-on-SiC HEMT production in mid-calendar year 2020."
II-VI obviously is not going to buy many SiC tools just yet since it has not even been qualified.
Aixtron does not want to be specific in the CC's regarding eventually how many SiC tools would be needed. I think Felix mentioned hundreds but I am not certain. I can estimate when I have time and data but not now.
