Hyundai Motor Goes All Out to Boost Exports Korea's top automaker Hyundai Motor is going all out to boost exports to make up for its sluggish sales in the domestic market. Industry sources say Hyundai Motor recently bumped up its year-end export target to 1.7 million units, a rise of 138,000 from its earlier projection for 2004. These exports refer to not only domestic productions bound for overseas markets and cars made in overseas plants but also complete knock-down kits sold to other auto manufacturers. To meet this goal, Hyundai Motor has been sending its executives on the road in several teams as part of an ambitious marketing and sales campaign to 21 countries around the world from Europe and Africa to the Middle East and Central and South Americas. Hyundai officials said auto exports have so far been strong but that they need to perform even better to offset the losses incurred in the domestic market.

Hyundai Motor says to raise India production SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea's largest auto maker, Hyundai Motor Co, said on Monday it would raise its annual output at its Indian unit by 25,000 units this year and also expand its output capacity by more than 60 percent by July.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd, India's second biggest carmaker and the wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor, is enjoying brisk domestic sales as well as robust exports to Europe and Central and South America.
Hyundai had raised this year's production target in India to 215,000 units from a 190,000 target it set early this year, the automaker said in a statement.
It would also expand its production capacity to 250,000 units from 150,000 units by July this year, it said.
The Indian unit saw its total sales rise by 36 percent last year to 150,741 units, with exports almost quadrupling. It also reported record monthly sales in February on the back of a 622 percent jump in exports.
Hyundai, which has been in India since 1998, makes the Santro hatchback, and the Accent and Sonata sedans at its car plant on the outskirts of Madras. It also imports the Terracan sports utility vehicle fully built from South Korea.
Hyundai's main competitors in the Indian market include top-ranked Maruti Udyog Ltd, a unit of Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp, local firm Tata Motors Ltd and Fiat's Indian subsidiary.
