SACKETS HARBOR — Hacketts needs to go back to the Planning Board.
The department store was approved to refurbish the former Harbormaster restaurant at the board's May 21 meeting with the contingency of getting pictures from catalogs of the windows, doors, awning material and light fixtures it would use if it wanted to replace those. At the June meeting, the awning material was presented and approved.
If the department store wanted to add anything, it needed an additional application, the Planning Board said. That was never filed for an additional staircase, which was built on the front, to the east of the main staircase it covered with stone façade.
"I'm a little disappointed," Planning Board Chairman Gary M. Gibson said.
He said Zoning Enforcement Officer James C. Corbin had talked to the contractor building the staircase and the contractor did not know about the village zoning and planning restrictions.
"I'm just concerned that it might go onto the sidewalk," member Stephen L. Swain said.
The board agreed to ask the department store to return to the board.
In other business, the board approved an application for site improvements from Sackets Harbor Yacht Club. The club, owned by Murray R. and John M. Maxon, will add limestone retaining and decorative walls and a flagpole surrounded by limestone and millstone.
